Is going very good! I love it. Co-workers are great and very helpful. Is a bit challenging at times but I'm sure I'll cope and get used to it.
Best Director's Quote (so far): "Holy Shit! [laughing hysterically missing the next video CG cue] Where's the rain!? Oh there it is!" As the weather anchor pretends/pantomimes/creative movements "rain" on-air when the background goes blank (referencing the station's new weather graphics package which may or may not work given its temperament.]
Best Producer's Quote (so far): "You filthy, filthy people! What will the new guy think?" (When she swore very badly when missing several cues during a "late Breaking" news event and was mercilessly teased by the director and an editor about her "sailor's" mouth)
Best News Director's Quote (to me on my first day): "Did we scare you away yet?"; Me: "No. Love it!"; ND: "I must not be doing my job well then...[laughing]"
They are a funny lot who are great to work with. I've already screwed up myself a few times -- live, of course -- but they are tolerant and getting used to me asking waaaay too many questions and getting used to the temperamental keyboard/software that just skips graphics of it's own accord -- the system is over 10 years old and it shows. They have the actually names of some of the keys written in marker on the key itself. They're THAT worn. People are already impressed that I'm ACTUALLY documenting graphic design, sub control and station procedures... apparently this is a new concept as everything before has been learned via an anthropologically oral history sent down from generation to generation during ancient rituals. In
Tongues.
Fun.
