The First day

We are sunburnt, smelly and tired.

It was marvellous.

As soon as I figure out how to upload some of the pics onto this new laptop then I will do and you can see the considerable dent we have made into the weeds today.

So far the best part has been the fact that as we are systematically cutting down the weeds we are being confronted with a load of old crops, and as we are well into summer they are bearing well. We have found a raised bed of raspberries (yellow and red), strawbs and intercropped garlic. We have found five fruit trees - cherry, pear and apples. We have found an enormous rhubarb patch (which we pulled for jam!) and a bed made up of redcurrents and lavender. There was the remnants of an artichoke bed as well.

We met our neighbour - a young bloke called Derek, who has an abundance of chickens. In fact he had three chicks hatch on Sunday, so he let us in to see them. Fingers crossed we can barter or buy from him when we are set up for some.

The only down side is that the door has been jemmied and the latch hacksawed off at some point. Apparently it happened ages ago, but we have been warned that every so often there are some daft kids that come around to cause some damage. With us being on the end, its a pain to get to our plot - but for right now we are making sure that nothing valuable is kept there when we are not around. We will build up some better fencing as well.

Righto - Im off to try and figure out the photos. I wont disturb you with pictures of any of the people that have been there today as we are all sweaty messes on each pic :)

Tomorrow. We will be back...
