All in all,
Mardis Gras was a success! Apparently I covered all the basics!
Can I just say how much I LOVE the French Quarter? Seriously, it was like coming home.
Okay, Imagine this...
Me.
My mind.
My mind personified to a land area.
French Quarter.
There we go! Hopefully none of you got stuck in the molassess swamp.
Zachypoo came to visit, too! Which was sooooooooooooo awesome! We had a blast! Zach had a bet that if he could get 1000 beads, he would get $1000! At last count... he was at 1300! SWEET! His bag that we bought specially for this probably weighed more than I did.
So, Friday night-
we went to the metarie parade. Low key, family oriented. Theme was monsters. Afterwards we went to a pool hall called Cue and Cushion when at some point I caught on fire and I didn't realize it until my friend Jenny starts smacking my arm and shouting "STOP DROP ROLL!" Just so you guys know, stop drop roll really does work. This is how it went down....
Jenny- thought bubble: "Hmm... I didn't know Brendon smoked... No, Brendon doesn't smoke.... OMG! Brendon's SLEEVE!" and then she proceeds to put me out. I must've been standing too close to someone who was smoking.
And that's why smoking's harmful to your health kiddies.
Saturday- Get into a fight.
Saturday we went to up-town (residential) NO for the Endymion parade. TOTALLY AWESOME! The parade didn't really have a theme, just awesome floats. Well, at one point I go up to the float stopped in front of our section and barter with the guy on the float for some prize beads. I ended up scoring some awesome ones (had mardis gras masks all over them, although I thought they were lop-sided pretzels for a while). I turn around to head back to our spot when someone stumbles into me. I stumble and accidently step on this chick's toe (might I add the fugly level of this chick was at a 9/10). I say, "I'm so sorry, I stepped on your toe."
"WAHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh *wub wub wub wub*" and the chick pushes me.
Oh no she just di-n't.
"Hey, I'm really sorry I accidently stepped on your toe."
"oooWAHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh *wub wub wub wub*" and she picks up a handfull of beads and throws them at me.
Oh, she went there.
"Bitch." And I pushed her backwards over a crate she was sitting on and she fell over. I turned around and high-tailed it out of there before she got her bearings.
[it took three days to wash the fugly off of my hands].
Sunday-
We're taking it kinda easy. We tour the french quarter, saw the market, central market, cafe du monde (no benietes (sp?) too packed...), the crescent, the steamboat, some street performers, street artists, street evangelists (I have now been condemned to hell at total of 62 times), a couple voodoo shops, Bourbon Street (BTW- not as bad as I thought it was gonna be). Ate a Lucky Dog! Mmmmmmm...yummy. Then, we went back up-town for the Bacchus parade (disney movies- theme).
We head out a little early to beat traffic, and meet up with some friends at this restaurant/bar thingie. We have a little bite to eat, some drink and go home.
At some point between getting into the car and getting to Kelly's house I lost my wallet. I knew I had it going into the car. I was so pissed at myself. I made it through all of mardis gras fine, and it was after mardis gras I lose my wallet.
Well, good news is some dude's mom found my wallet, he went to LSU, and I was able to meet up with him! He found me on facebook and messaged me! Of course, I get the message 3 hours after I cancel my cards (I froze them immediately when I found I lost the wallet).
Monday, Zach and I go to Kevin's and we do a hobo night- music, fire and bbq. very yummy! I, of course, bring fruit and chocolate to the night. Because I am fabulous like that. This prolly would've been the only downer part of the week. Because when zach and kevin were talking, they were getting all manly and stuff (fire, ooh hah hah). I, obviously, wasn't. Now as they were talking, the convo gets to girls. Zach says that he's not taking anymore female friends because he hates being relegated to the "best friend" position. Now, I understand where he's coming from, but then the convo just seemed to get chauvonistic. I at one point finally got fed up and said how disappointed I was that they couldn't have girls as just friends. That the only reason to have a girl be your friend was so that you could have something more than a friendship was incredibly depressing. I went on to say that I have always had girls as my friends (my best friends, even), and that I probably would die if I didn't have them be there for me. I can remember talking to mom about that many years ago and she would tell me, "See, back in my day, when a boy and a girl hung out, that means they were very seriously dating. But you, you and your friends, you are boys and girls mixed together and you're all friends. And that's what I love about you and your friends." I know that Kevin went to an all-boys school, so he didn't have many girls as friends, but still....
So, girls....
here's to you and your fabulousness and may you always triumph over stinky boys!
I just felt really alienated at that point, you know? I know I'm different. But the difference became blaringly obvious.
Kev's been a bit more consciencious to me since then. He even actaully asked me how I was doing on sunday when we were all studying for renal phys, making sure I wasn't freaking out or anything like that. 'Nisa, did I sound like I was stressed?
I digress....
Tuesday- we were gonna eat crawdads, but because it was Mardis gras, the restaurant only got a small shipment for the all-you-can-eat night, and all the other restaurants didn't even get any!.
BTW- Mardis gras shuts down the state of Louisiana for like a week. It's awesome. The entire state celebrates debotchery!
So, we eat a regular dinner anyways and then have Kareoke night over at club DUB (kevin's sister's house). Sooooooo much fun! I solo'd on Jump Jive and Wail.
Wed-
Zach throws an AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME dinner party!
Veggie pannini, rosemary chicken, veggie taquitos, rosemary potatoes and a strawberry/bannana flambe!
Nooch.
Zach and I spent the rest of the night chilling together, lighting 151 rum on fire. It was beautiful.
Thursday, I take zach back to the airport after we went out to lunch with kevin and michelle. Others flaked on us, b/c of a quiz on friday. (Umm, hello? Do I not have that quiz, too? Hmmmm....). Not gonna lie, I got a little misty-eyed when zach crossed the security gate. Fortunately he didn't look back (being all manly and all that jazz).
Friday- anatomy quiz. I spent 9 hours in the lab the night before craming everything I should have learned the past 2 weeks. Oy. Learned and dumped to make room for renal phys.
Spent, literally, all day saturday (12 hours) and sunday (15 hours) and woke up early monday morning (2 additional hours) to study for this exam. Oy. I'm burned out.
Went running, passed out on the couch while eating dinner. Fabulous! Watched charmed for the first time in forever!
All is well, sleepy but well!
Love,
B-luv.
