Happy Father's Day to all dads out there.
Our family decided not to do anything special today. Mom had a work activity she had to be at, the two young ones went up north to avoid Monday morning traffic, and ate is, well, where IS ate? Haha! So anyway, I ended up staying at home the whole day, resting up for the week ahead.
We decided not to go out of our way to eat out today. If we did, it would have to be up north, meaning additional drain on our resources. Gas, toll, time; all things we would rather use for more pressing concerns. In the practical sense, all that travel, hassle, traffic, and restaurant lines did not make any sense whatsoever.
Today, like any other day of commemoration, is about celebrating a person's existence. About ensuring that the person knows we are thankful for them. About showing them the love, respect, and support that they so truly deserve. Remember, though, that it does not only have to be today that we text our father. Remember, though, that it does not only have to be today that we make him a priority. Remember, though, that it does not only have to be today that we celebrate the blessing who we call Dad, Father, Itay, Papa, or Ama.
Friends, take every day as an opportunity to tell your loved ones that they are important to you, and that no matter how rare the times that you get to spend together, they will always remain an integral part of who you were, who you are, and who you have yet to become.
To my family, Happy Father's Day. Dad (you always will be our father, the bestest one ever, even if you've gone on to a better place), Mom, Ate, Queenie, Jellie, you have all, in your own ways, served as Father to our family. We wouldn't be where we are now; a solid, bonded, funny, drop-dead gorgeous and sexy family without all your contributions. Celebrate today with the knowledge that your impact and your worth is as important to me today as any other day.
Cheers! (I ate a calzone for lunch and salad for dinner, so I guess they cancel out. The ice cream for dessert was a killer, but today's as good a cheat day as any, right? :D)
