High Adventure

I wanted to post about this days ago, but my dad hasn't upgraded to DSL yet, and his keyboard seems to kinda gummed up as well. So, i decided to wait until I got back home, and then a couple more days because I'm a lazy bastard.

Saturday morning my mom called to let me know she probably wouldn't be coming into town because the culvert was blocked and the creek was going over the road. So, dad and I prepared to go out there and clear it, gathering various gear. He kept trying to give me slickers, but I saw them as being fairly pointless. All I wanted was some footwear I could go wading in so my own shoes, I only brought one pair, would still be dry. As we were headed out the door Micheal made some smartass comment about having fun, to which I said, "We will, we're going on an Adventure!" He got a look, and said "I'll be ready in 2 minutes." Sucker!

Anyway, as I expected, I ended up having to wade in nuts-deep to locate the object responsible for the blockage. We then hooked a come-along up to it and started cranking, but the branch broke. We spent a minute looking at each other thinking "Well, what do we do now?", then suddenly a giant suction started happening and basically pulled all the other crap that the now broken branch had been holding back down through the pipe. It was like someone had flushed a giant toilet.

In the process of this some jackasses in 4WD trucks got pissed that we were blocking the road. We pretty much told them that if they weren't going to help maintain it they could go fuck themselves, though it seemed to take them an awfully long time to get the hint.

Once that was done, and we dug out the drainage ditches along the road a little, we went down to see what was going on with Greenhorn Creek. There was some serious water going through there, and the bed is now a good 20+ feet lower than it used to be. There was one Ford Explorer that looked like it had fallen in, and is now pretty much junk. I suspect a few more vehicles will suffer similar fates as idiots pull up too close to the edge of the newly scoured-out cliffs to take a look.
