ATHON

Aug 09, 2009 03:57

Just yesterday I was saying, Gosh, I shouldn't sign up for any more 'athons, because then it will all pile up and I'll get tired and start feeling obligated and it'll get put off and all go wrong! And then today I was saying, Gosh, Hetalia fic is all so happy but I really want to see some of the hard spots of history written about, after all it's not all just kittens and cupcakes!

So of course tonight I signed up for hetaliasunshine, which is a fic/art exchange "for the sunnier side of Hetalia: the brightness, the joy, the sweetness, the laughter, the tenderness, the friendship, the love, the warmth." (/piiiimp)

Do I contradict myself? Very well then I contradict myself. (I am large, I contain Walt Whitman.)

In filling out the prompts I wanted I realized that I really want to write about pre-Reconquista Spain, while the Moors were still filling their mosques in Grenada and the Jew was still living next door with his books and the classical Greek thinkers were resurfacing in Western culture thanks to old Arabic translations that had been kept for ages. Spain, making its way out of the dark ages with the help of Moors and Jews. Spain, expelling them and pulling itself together to embrace its Catholic monarchs. Spain, bringing its Other Religions baggage to the New World. (Spain pushing around Catalunya, Spain and el Pais Vasco beating each other, Spain holding shattered Guernica in his arms!) Holy crap, Spain Spain Spain. Spain you are a tragedy, you are beautiful, porque no te callas, please never stop speaking in your five co-official, two recognized, and three unofficial languages.

Today I painted my room and now it is bright yellow! HAPPY DAY.

I have succeeded yet again in staying up past a reasonable hour, and this time without even writing anything. :(
