mizemm and I were talking again last night about possibilities for starting a new shared/communal house. we looked though the listings on craigslist, and found several very nice houses. mizemm wrote down six that we think are good possibilities and is working on contacting them. all of them are in nice seattle neighborhoods with easy bus access to downtown. all of them are 4-6 bedrooms with rent averaging out to 260-400 (not including utilities) per room. several of them have extra rooms such as office/den, rec room, or two kitchens. (which would be very useful for different diets -we could have one veggie only kitchen and one meat option kitchen)
household would almost definitely be queer/poly/pagan/kinky/nudity friendly. my other ideas and preferences would be; to have shared food and meals, mostly veggie and organic whole foods, have a shared sewing and craft space, and a big garden, pet friendly, chemical/fragrance free, very eco-conscience, host parties and potlucks or other social or activist events, not obsessively clean or overly cluttered, but all of these would be negotiable.
We want to get together with any of our friends or their friends who might considering living in a shared house. the haunted has agreed to host and add there input from their years of experience. mizemm did a post trying to plan a discussion group a while ago and it didn't get much response. (read her post here http://www.livejournal.com/users/mizemm/58249.html?nc=7 ) hopefully we will get more interest now that we have more specific info of houses we are looking at. people that I have talked to about doing this kind of thing, and I want to personally invite to the discussion would be lumiere, singingnettle, (both of whom replied to mizemm's post) happilymyself, red_the_squeaky, and a few other friends not on lj. anyone else who would like to come talk with us would be welcome. we do want to keep it within our friends network, or at least people with similar lifestyle/mindset. activist, sca, con, or wetspot people would all be cool. if you know anyone you think would be interested please show them this post or give them my email- kepwonder@hotmail.com or phone #- (206)605-8450.
I have enjoyed living with _pollox, kiarapanther, and ShawnCuilean over the past year. It wasn't perfect, but it's the closest I've had. we've been friends, and we worked through conflict. I did ask them all first if they wanted to move with me, but we are all wanting different things at this point.
I know starting a new shared house is difficult to co-ordinate, but once they get started they usually last a long time. I know it would be my ideal situation, so I am really hoping we find enough people and it all works out. I have been looking at other places to live from listings in the paper or on craigslist. several could work, but none of them are just right, and I'm tired of moving, and I know mizemm is to. I do need to decide something and move out of here by the end of Feb. I'm also job hunting at the same time.
