Wednesday with T.C.

J.T. usually has Wednesdays off, but is working them this month, which means that when I have a weekday off I usually ask for Wednesday, and this week it was just me and the kid.

J.T. had his car back last night after getting the starter replaced. The shop refused to say if this would fix the issue, but we believe it will. This was the THIRD time we've had it in for the same, 'sometimes it just refuses to start with no warning' issue. The first two times, however, the car refused to reproduce the problem for the guys in the shop. This time when he took it in Monday night, it refused to start for the guys at Pep Boys too. However by the morning shift, when they got a chance to get into things, it started right up, no problems. I understand that they don't want to replace a part that's not bad based on diagnosis from what we've told them, but J.T. keeps getting stranded places. You can jump it with a strong enough jump, (like a tow truck heavy-duty jump battery.)

Anyway, we'll see if this stops the issue. It was getting worse, it went from "refuses to start once a month" to "refuses to start at least twice a week." So both cars were in service, so T.C. and I were not trapped at home today, which was nice. We got up way too early, I woke up about 7:30 and couldn't get back to sleep right away, at which point T.C. heard me up and about and got up too. So we were up by 7:45 when normal get up time is 9:30-10:00. We went to Meijer and did some shopping and I made the mistake of going too close to the toys. So we went through the toys and T.C. declared that he wanted just about everything, but settled on one toy and said it wanted it for his birthday. I told him I would buy him one special toy but we'd take it home and wrap it up for next week so he wouldn't get to play with it right away. He said that was ok. So we did; he picked out a Batman Lego set and we wrapped it up and... he's been hugging it all night and insisted on taking it to bed with him.

So we had some breakfast/lunch and then went to the thrift store, one of T.C.'s personal favorite places, because they have a whole wall of toys to play with. He's usually pretty good about not asking to buy lots of toys there, he just likes seeing what all they have and new toys he's never seen before. Well in the back room where they keep big and odd items they had a Bob the Builder Ride-on "Scoop" (Scoop is the backhoe loader, for those unfamiliar with the show.) It's basically a Power Wheels, but not that brand. Except this one had the main battery removed. It was priced at $5. I looked up new batteries, they will cost $30-$35 probably. So we might do that for his birthday too. (I always wanted a Power Wheels toy as a child. If I can get my kid a $200 toy for $40, by gum I'm there.)

After some difficulty getting it into the car trunk due to its large size, we managed to get home, I put it back together and T.C. played with it for a while before we got hot and came back inside. Then we both took a much-needed two hour nap." I have to say napping with him, when I want and need a nap too, is still one of my favorite experiences. He's just so cuddly and sweet. Both Grandmas and J.T. have no idea why I feel that way - T.C. is a massive bed hog. My secret is I'm just as much of a bed hog as he is. I give no ground and if he manages to inch me over, I will just pick him up and move him over.

After our nap my mom came over to avail herself of our raspberries, so we picked raspberries, then J.T. came home, so we cooked dinner and hung out some. After dinner we watered the plants in the garden and then walked to McDonalds for ice cream cones. T.C. wanted to take the scenic route home. He's more of a meandering person than a "walking" person at this point. Then we played in the back yard some more until it got late enough that the bugs were more of a problem.

He is so sweet, but completely exhausting. I spend enough time alone with him and I'm always thrilled to go back to work where I have a different set of stressors to worry about. But enough time at work and I always miss my boy.
