Hello Zellie fans--
I want to apologize to you for never posting on Livejournal on behalf of Zellie. I have been updating her blog on zellie.info- I know most of you guys know she posts there, as when she got sicker, she would just post the link to that blog on here.
She had a memorial in October, and it was beautiful. And painful. She will sorely be missed. I know you guys miss her, too. I noticed on some comments on the entry I posted the day she died that some of you only recently found out. I'm sorry you had to find out so late. I was so focused on her zellie blog that I have totally neglected LJ. :( :(
In case you weren't aware of that blog, I will give you a few updates in the 3 months and change that our Zellie has left us:
Most recent news, Orin (known as wickedorin on here) created an EXTREMELY SPIFFTACULAR ebay auction in memory of zellie. She made Zell a Fuck Cancer bracelet/choker (which Zellie loved)- so this auction included a copy of Lightning Spliced and a Fuck Cancer choker-- last I saw there was one bid. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society- thanks again Orin, you're so awesome.
September- I approved the book for distribution (meaning to be sold outside of lulu.com where she originally had her book published) on account of the spine- the text wasn't within the requirements.
during this time, several of us had ordered the book and noticed the spine problem was the text, and how far it was from the edge, so her amazing boyfriend, who designed the beautiful cover, fixed it easily and quickly. The thing is, there were MANY problems with the book itself.
1) the format of the pages- it was scrunched all weird like... if that makes sense (well if you got the book, you know what I mean)
2) typos galore. If you knew Zell, you knew her spelling wasn't always that great!
So it was a massive team effort- her ex roomie did all the spell checking, and my husband did all the correcting and reformatting. Got it fixed by November 1, submitted it for approval- didn't hear anything back. Rules are: wait 6-8 weeks after approval for it to be distributed.
I never got an email, but today I did a search on Amazon.com- and it's there! It's also on barnes and noble's site and books-a-million's site. Just do a search of Lightning Spliced and you'll see it!!!!
All proceeds go to the American Cancer society- I have been in touch with the ACS and they have received the chck and will donate as she wished. That was sort of a complicated process to get through to them, but I am in touch with a real person on there (not a department) so I promise you that with each royalties check that comes out, I will make certain the funds are taken care of.Almost $400 went to the ACS in November!!!! then next check is set to go out in February. if you haven't bought the book, please do! More royalties go to the ACS if bought from Lulu but it's ok if you buy from amazon, etc. We want Zellie to be famous!
If you are on Facebook with her, you'll notice that every blog I post on zelle.info automatically posts on her FB page....something she has had set up since she created her blog. I don't (and won't) log into her FB page for ANY reason- it's hard enough to check her email for lulu things, log into HER blog and HER LJ as it is. I am leaving her FB page alone. If I ever DO log into her FB page, it would be for something extra super exciting, like her books are on the bookshelves at major bookstores- then I'd post a photo album of it. For now, it stands sacred. Just so you know.
My email is in the last blog, if you are unfamiliar with what has been going on and want more detailed updates, feel free to email me. Otherwise, your best bet is to go to
http://zellie.info for all of the happenings of her book. There's also a nice section of dedications for her, in the posthumous postings section on the page. Her favorite author, JC Hutchins even wrote one! I put that in the newer version of her book because it was SO beautiful. Her friends Tina and Callie wrote beautiful reviews on Amazon- you should check those out.
Her book being published was something she wanted accomplished more than anything else (other than cancer dying, not her), and many of us believe she held on the way she did to make sure this book was PUBLISHED. Now that it is, rest assured, many of us are making sure that her legacy never dies.
Soon I will post another blog about what we can do to help get books on the shelves of bookstores, big and small. She had a to do list for us, and we couldn't do anything with it until it was distributed, and well, it's distributed, soo yay!
Take care, and PLEASE forgive Me, Zellie LJ fans for not keeping you in the loop. Not my intention at all :(
Happy holidays for those who celebrate it,and happy days for those who don't. :)
