It was totally awesome!!! Some parts of it were a little slow, and there could have been better cuts and explanation for things, but overall, it was pretty sweet. I wish it was next Friday already.
Well, it starts it out with a recap of what happened in Ba Sing Se. After that, Aang finally wakes up, but he's completely dazed, and he has hair. After noticing that he is in a fire nation ship, he totally freaks out and tries to sneak away. He runs into two individuals and then makes his way out. Then, he falls and sees Momo. After, Toph and Katara make their appearance, and next is Sokka in full fire nation armor, mask and all. Aang is so confused and weak, that he ends up fainting.
Zuko is aboard a FN ship, and Mai appears. He wonders aloud wondering how things have changed, and if he is changed. Mai replies with "I just asked if you were cold. I didn't ask for your whole life story." After which, they kiss.
Aang starts shooting off questions as to why there on a FN ship, and why he's confused when everyone else isn't. Of course, Katara has to mention that she likes his hair (he looks much better with it), and he freaks out wondering how long he was out for. Hakoda introduces himself, and Katara is quite upset with him, even if she does deny it to Aang (looks like someone else has Daddy issues as well). Aang then cries out in pain, and Katara suggests a healing session. The scar on his back is totally gruesome. It's definitely worse than Zuko's by far, but he can at least still hide it. While she is healing him, he experiences flashbacks about what happened in Ba Sing Se. Aang realizes that he actually died and that Katara saved him. (I wonder if a new Avatar will be called since Aang was technically dead, like in Buffy when she drowned and came back to life.)
In the FN, Lo and Li make a speech about how Azula infiltrated the Earth Kingdom, found her brother, and how they both took over Ba Sing Se and slayed the Avatar. Then, they announce how Azula's agents, the Dai Li, knocked down the wall and the FN was able to enter. There was a cameo appearance by Jin and the family from the Serpent's Pass. I thought it was a pretty great speech. Then, they introduce Azula as "clever and beautiful," who looks amazing in her Fire Nation armor, and Zuko, who has been gone for 3 years, returns home. He looks pretty depressed though.
Meanwhile, Sokka tells Aang what happened after the battle. They fled Ba Sing Se and found Hakoda in Chameleon Bay. The Earth King decided he wanted to travel the world in disguise with Bosco. He was even missing a shoe when he left. They destroyed all the Water Tribe ships and captured a FN ship. Now they have been working on a modified version of the invasion plan, which Katara hotly announces to her father that it's Sokka's plan. The plan is for a small group of allies to invade. They already found Pipsqueak and Duke, the two individuals from earlier. Of course, then Sokka announces that the eclipse isn't even their biggest advantage, and that they have have a secret. Everything thinks Aang is dead. Next, he exclaims, "Isn't that great?" Aang looks completely shocked. Way to break it to him, Sokka.
Aang freaks and asks how that could possibly be good news. Sokka proclaims that it's great because then the FN won't be hunting for them anymore, and that they won't expect him on the day of the eclipse. Before they can really get into things, another FN ship appears. Aang states that he will handle it, but he is still injured and Katara reminds him that the other ship doesn't know that they aren't FN. So, they hide Appa, Momo, and the Gaang. Three members of the other ship board, and the commander questions Hakoda as to why they are off course as everyone in the Western fleet is suppose to head towards Ba Sing Se to help with the occupation. Hakoda replies that they are a part of the Western fleet, and that they are to deliver cargo. The commander is upset that Admiral Chan didn't send a hawk, and they quickly recover by saying that next time, they'll send two hawks. The two soldiers quietly mention that the admiral has been on leave for 2 months, they realize that the ship might be captured. Toph overhears them saying to sink the ship once they are safely across and kicks it into high gear. She uses her metalbending to destroy the bridge and knock them overboard. Katara uses some pretty impressive water bending to push the ships further apart.
Back at the FN, Zuko is feeding bread to the turtleducks, whom scatter away when Azula casts her shadow over them. She notices that Zuko is downcast asks Zuko if Mai has already been getting to him, but then remarks that Mai has been in a surprisingly good mood. Zuko replies that he hasn't seen Ozai yet, and worries about his honor because he didn't capture the Avatar. Azula responds that the Avatar is dead, notices Zuko's uncertainty about that fact, and then questions Zuko if there is any chance that he is alive. Zuko pauses, remembering what Katara said about the spirit oasis water having special properties, and replies no. Azula doesn't look entirely convinced though, but she says that she is sure that he has nothing to worry about then.
The FN ship follows and attack them. They then "load the Toph," and she retaliates against them. The FN uses a harpoon to create a hole in the ship, but Katara quickly comes to the rescue and uses ice to block the hole. She gives them some cover by creating a giant whirlpool and a ton of steam. It turns out to be a bad move because they can't see the FN ship closing in on them. Aang yells that he can't stand by and do nothing, but Sokka restrains him because he can't reveal himself and he's injured. Sokka proclaims that it can't get worse, so of course it does (he totally jinxed them) as the unagi appears. "The universe just loves proving me wrong, doesn't it?" "That's because you make it too easy," Toph yells back at him. The FN ship hits the unagi, and it decides to go after them by wrapping itself around the ship. "Thank you the universe."
The GAang decides to go into town for dinner, and Sokka says that Aang needs to hide his airbender tattoos, but he doesn't want to. Katara tells them that she and Aang will join them soon. Katara realizes that Aang doesn't want to hide because that would make it seem like he failed. He says that's true, and then claims that he did fail Katara says that it's not his fault and they still have the invasion plan. Aang angrily says that he hates that plan and tears down the drapery. He says, "I've always known that I would have to face the Fire Lord, but now I know that I need to do it alone." He then asks Katara to please go. He then says that he needs to redeem himself and that he needs his honor back. Sound familiar, anyone?
Zuko approaches the throne room and then enters the throne room to see his father for the first time in 3 years.
Katara goes to Aang's room with food and notices that he is gone. We see Aang airgliding towards the FN.
Zuko kneels before his father, and Ozai states that he has redeemed himself, and calls him "my son." We also get to see his face, which is completely normal. He is incredibly good looking, and very young as well. No white hairs for this guy.
Aang is seen gliding again. Katara runs to her father with unshed tears in her eyes, and Bato leaves them alone. She makes a speech about how he (Aang) left, that it was selfish of him to do so, and how he needs them and they need him. Hakoda quickly realizes that the speech is about him leaving Katara and Sokka as well. She knows that he had to go and she understands, but she doesn't get why she feels so sad and angry and hurt. It's called teenage angst, my dear. Get used to it. It looks like Katara and Aang are both sharing in Zuko's angst in this episode. He claims that he loves them more than anything in the world, and how he missed them so much it would ache. Ozai states that he is proud of Zuko because Azula and he conquered Ba Sing Se, he captured Iroh the traitor, and that Zuko slayed the Avatar. Zuko asked what he heard, and Ozai states that Azula told him everything. Aang passes the blockade by diving down beneath the ships. He then finds a long, and he uses airbending to windsurf.
Zuko enters Azula's chambers and asks her why she did it. She tells him that he needs to be a little more specific. She looks so hot with her hair down, and very different as well. She looks really good in her sleepwear. She claims that he seemed so worried that he hadn't captured the avatar, that if she gave him the credit, he would have nothing to worry about. She calls it a generous gesture for his help and that she was happy to share the glory. Zuko states that she's lying, and Azula brushes him off and just walks past him. He claims that she has another motive, but he hasn't figured out what yet. She stretches (like a sex kitten, hard to believe she's only 14) and asks him what ulterior motive she could possibly have. She asks what glory could she gain from telling Ozai that Zuko killed the Avatar, unless of course the Avatar wasn't really dead. "Then, all that glory would turn to shame and foolishness." But that wouldn't be possible if the Avatar was really dead as Zuko had stated earlier. Well, looks like Azula definitely has the upper hand once again. Once they find out Aang is alive, Zuko will take the fall for it. The entire scene reminded me of Kathryn and Sebastian from Cruel Intentions, though Zuko and Azula really are siblings.
Aang loses his glider and gets pulled under a huge wave. He then says that he failed, and Avatar Roku appears before him. he says that the war was his fault from the beginning because he didn't stop it even as he saw they signs, but he feels that Aang can redeem him for his mistakes. Yue comes in (from out of nowhere) and says that he has already saved the world, he'll save it again, and that he can't give up. Aang realizes that she's right, and creates a large wave, so that he can surf his way to the FN. I think that whole conversation was a little rushed, and that there should have been a bit more explaining. Ah well. He wakes up to find Momo and then the others. He asks about the invasion plan, and Sokka replies that they'll meet up with everyone else on the day of black sun. Toph feels his airglider hit her, and hands it to Aang. It's completely broken, but Aang says it's alright as people would automatically recognize him as the Avatar if they see it. He realizes that it's better for him to stay a secret and leaps to the top to destroyed the glider. It's goes up in smoke, and then it ends.
Thoughts:
Aang looks great with his hair.
Katara is surprisingly whiny, but understandable as she is a teenage girl after all.
Toph and her metalbending are great.
Sokka and his comedic touch is great.
Ozai is insanely hot and good-looking.
Azula has gotten even hotter than before, and this pretty much seals the deal with her being my favorite.
All the Zuko/Azula scenes were great, and it totally reminded me of Cruel Intentions
I can't wait for more.
And all the new seasons start next week.
