That Fraser is wearing the jacket that Ray wraps around himself in the flashback That the aforementioned jacket is wrapped backwards around Ray, like maybe something with sleeves is new to him (or he's just being contrary) The blues are gorgeous (and I love that Fraser gets pink smoke) Each scene you picked makes me so happy Page one, panel three - love the darkness, contrasted with the vast white scenery of panel 4 Ray being all blues in his first appearance The symbols used for Ray's language, and the overlay of Fraser's wish on page two, panel 5 changing it to English Ray being so "in your face" with Fraser on page 3 (ignore that personal bubble, Ray!) Ray's happy look when he greets Dief on page 4 The last two panels of page 4 - guh! Holiday lights around the bedroom! How Fraser looks at Ray on the last panel of page 5 Okay, all of page 5, with the hominess and ordinary feel of it, despite what's actually happening *hearts* Ray letting Fraser take care of him The next to last panel on page 6 - the look on Ray's face, the angle of his neck, Fraser pulling him close - YUM
In conclusion, I adored this to bits and cannot thank you enough!
- I took the idea of backwards flannel Ray from "Asylum," in which it seems like maybe he has been using Fraser's shirt as a blanket, but yeah, in this it totally seems like he doesn't know how to wear a shirt.
- How I picked the scenes I picked: I think you asked for the breakfast scene. (And that scene definitely feels both homey and ordinary, magic nothwithstanding, so I wanted to preserve that.) And when I read the rest of the story, I was like, "Well, I can't NOT show him first popping out of the bottle. Or getting back from his family wearing a ton of eyeliner." (I was going to put glitter but there is NO WAY that would have scanned.) Then when I put them all after one another it sort of told a complete story so I did my best to cram plot points into my tiny talk bubbles.
- I totally made up random symbols for Ray's language, implying he speaks some kind of unknown-to-humans genie language, but for his tattoo I looked up the Arabic for "champion". I don't... I don't actually have a good explanation for this.
- Last panel of page 4 is like my favorite thing that came serendipitously out of the way the layout/script beats fell. Because it was at the end of the page and I like to make things either jokey, intense, or sappy at the end of a page, so I threw in a joke AND a sappy moment BOTH.
- You may notice that, although Ray lets Fraser take care of him to the extent of clearing up the dishes (hey, Ray cooked), the dishes MYSTERIOUSLY DISAPPEAR with a wave of Ray's hand. And Fraser is completely unfazed. :)
I think those are all the top secret author's notes I have. Anyway, I'm really glad you enjoyed it. :) I'll mail you the originals - the color balance is a little better on the blues, especially in page 2, *but also* you can see just how much white-out was used.
