This one is easy for me. My favorite movie has to be Joe Versus the Volcano. On the surface this may appear to be a shocking choice being the first Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan pairing, critically panned (although Roger Ebert liked it) box office dud but if you know me it's not a surprise. A bright and shiny tropical fairy tale with hidden depth and dark undertones wrapped up farce and light hearted comedy simply defied convention and categorization. The masses didn’t understand this film and some people just don’t like it. Joe Versus the Volcano is not for everyone. It’s penned by the same John Patrick Stanley who wrote the more popular and equally quotable fairytale “Moonstruck”. He also directed the film.
I quote it, I get my best lines from it and most importantly I believe in it.
And it did manage to become a cult classic.
