It was the beginning of the end...
Well, I finished it--Prince of Tennis: the National Tournament OVA. As a whole, i thoroughly enjoyed it. As i expected, they won. (Duh.)
only a couple things that irked me at the end.
Firstly, the 'epilogue,' as it were, was told through a letter Sakuno writes to Ryoma--when he's in America. WTF was up with that? Did miss that the Echizens were moving back to America? WHYEEEEEE? Echizen needed to captain Seigaku's tennis team when he bacame a senior! He took the "Seigaku's pillar of support" from Tezuka--what gives Echizen?! So, didn't like that.
Secondly, why is Tezuka going to Germany again? That's precisely what Sakuno says in her letter to Ryoma. Rehab again? No reason given--just "Tezuka's going to Germany." I, being a Tezuka fangirl, would like to know these things.
::thinks:: Errr, that's kind of it of what i didn't like. Other than the fact that Ryoma didn't ask Sakuno out. >_> But that's whatever.
The last match was just incredible. I laughed, I cried, I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, biting my nails. Ryoma, after losing four (or five...?) consecutive games, begins to give in to Yukimura's style of play, in which he makes his opponent lose his senses. Essentially, Ryoma lost all his senses that are crtitical to tennis--touch, sight, hearing. It was awfult to watch. Then he remembers when he first learned to play tennis with his father, Nanjiro. He played tennis because it was fun, and remembers that same feeling a nd is revived in a state called the "Pinnacle of Perfection," depending on the translation. Basically what that does is that you simply play just by letting go of yourself, and play for the sake of playing. It was epic to say the least.
All in all, i loved and adored the ending. So many "LOL" moments. Oooh! Tezuka smiled!! And Fuji totally called it out! And Inui totally got it on tape!! EPIC WIN. And at the end, eeryone was tossing Ryoma up and down, and Tezuka was standing off to th side, and he was all like, "Bitches, please, I am not doing that shit." XDDDDD Oh, Tezuka.... And Ryoma's faces while he was in the air... Hilarious!! and so cute, too!! ^_^ If i knew how to make moving pictures i would make on of all his faces and post it here. Alas, I do not. :(
EDIT: 8/6/2009 I found some screencaps from the ending!! they are adorable. ^_^
I love these so much! this scene truly shows how much Echizen is still a boy who loves tennis. Also, i love the progression of these pics; the one with Kikumaru-sempai and Momo-sempai, he's all really proud of himself and so is the rest of the team; then he's all like, "Oh my God, what are you guys doing?!"; then he's all, "Well, this is all right; at least they didn't pour ice-cold Ponta on top of my head like they do at American football games;" "Wee-hee, this is kinda fun....!" and finally, "ZOMG, this is awesome!! and i am Japan's number one middle school tennis player!! I even beat Tezuka-buchou and Yukimura-kun!!" ::sigh:: Oh, Ryoma.....
I suppose that's it for now. More at a later date (probably tomorrow.)
