well, in the beginning of the summer, when i first heard of Prince of Tennis and all of the media it has been made into--manga, anime, live-action and musical--i swore that i would stop at the live-action movie, and read the manga if i found it online.
::sigh:: I found the manga online a few days ago, and I read it when i feel like doing so. I like it a lot, despite the fact that i prefer the anime's art style. (Tezuka and Fuji are also sexier in anime form. ^_^)
Now the musical... >_> I watched the first musical, Musical Tennis no Oujisama, last night and finished it up this morning. I reeeeeally enjoyed it. I was smiling the whole time; it is a really cute show. Everyone is cast really well, and it is evident that the actors had so much fun making this musical. The storyline follows the manga almost to a T; female characters are eliminated, and unimportant story arcs are removed. But it really is a cute show. I was watching it on my laptop, someone uploaded the official DVD, so it was a live recording. The audience was having a really good time with it. Hell, i was, too, and I wasn't even there!! i laughed, i smiled, i clapped... had a lot of fun with it.
Kimeru plays Fuji! it is awesome. whenever he comes on, the female portion of the audience--probably about 90% of the audience--goes crazy! and with good reason! it's Kimeru!!
Unfortunately, Shirota Yuu has not yet taken the role of Tezuka; he doesn't come in until i think the fifth musical. :( Oh well. hopefully i'll be able to find them and watch them all.
There were different things that made this musical a real treat for a hardcore female TeniPuri fan such as myself. Teh first one that springs into my mind is during the second act's opening song, entitled ザ・レギュラー The Regulars. You see all the regulars prepping and getting ready for the upcoming ranking match while Fuji (Kimeru) is singing. All the regulars perform different feats and activities that pertain to their particular style of tennis. Kikumaru does some crazy stunts; Inui is rereading his data and drinking some Inui Juice and so on.... But Tezuka is shown going to Oishi's uncle, who is a doctor, getting his left forearm checked. A small scene that means a lot to TeniPuri fans, especially Tezuka fangirls. Indeed, when that scene took place, the crowd cheered, and i did, too. I love when small things like that are paid attention to.
Now this is about a two-hour musical, so it only goes up to the point in the story when Ryoma is made a regular. The last official scene before the closing song is Tezuka handing Ryoma his jacket.
So the music itself.... I'm listening to it right now. It makes me smile, hence why Fuji up there is so happy, like he always is. The music is very upbeat obviously, and everyone in the cast can sing well. Hell, i liked the music; i just stopped to dance to it a little bit.
All right, before the curtain call Kimeru (as Fuji) sang the song that goes with Prince of Tennis, one of my personal favorites of his, 'You Got Game?' LOVE that song. and the soundtrack has that live performance of it! it is THE SHIT. Anyway, during the course of the song, the regulars come out individually and dance. Tezuka, being the buchou, is last and that guy--Ha! Speak of the devil! it just came on! SING, KIMERU!! SING IT!!!!!! ...anyway, Tezuka is portrayed by Takigawa Eiji (滝川 英治) and he can dance! Towards the end of the song, Oishi (Tsuchiya Yuichi), Fuji, and Tezuka are shown together and they all have a little friendship moments. So then Oishi and Tezuka are standing off to the side of Fuji and Oishi--i love him for doing this--while Tezuka is standing tall and proud as he is want to do, grabs Tezuka's side, tickling him! Reflexively, Tezuka smiles (!!!!!!), and then immediately reverts back to his usual stoic self, glaring at Oishi! oh, it was great...... Here's a shot of Takigawa Eiiji as Tezuka Kunimitsu:
and as himself:
Personally, I don't think he makes the best Tezuka--look-wise. That feat was owned by Shirota Yuu, but as himself.... Wow.
So that's what i've been up to this weekend, wen I probably should have been studying for my ENG 210 midterm. Oh well!
Also been playing Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days and it's pretty fun. I'll get into more detail when I finish the game.
