As an added bonus to yesterday's Obama related excitement, yesterday was also the day my dad came home from the hospital. And last I heard, he was doing quite well

Seriously: not only was Prop 8 a vile-ass idea, but it creates a legal nightmare.
same-sex marriage (and divorce!) is now illegal, but the wording itself, as understood by the california state attorney's office, does NOT invalidate already married same-sex couples.
Ergo, there are now 4 types of relationships (legally) in california:
1) unmarried heterosexuals who can get married 2) unmarried homosexuals who can't get married 3) married homosexuals who can't get divorced (and may be involved in an illegal contract as such...) 4) married heterosexuals who can get divorced
That's some major what-the-fuckery right there.
Also, I wonder if people in Alaska realize that even in CHICAGO someone with 7 felony convictions probably couldn't elected - even if they were a Daley!
I think you and I may have been reading a lot of the same sources today.
The other big thing with Prop 8 is that it causes the state constitution to contradict itself, in that it guarantees equality among people (hence the legalization of gay marriage in the first place), but with the Prop 8 amendment will create an unequal situation. And as we know, separate but equal is an oxymoron.
Yep. Which means that it will suck during the next 5 years, but will ultimately end up back at the california supreme court if the legislators don't fix it.
And the suckiest thing of all will be all the couples where one person dies before they are ever allowed to marry. And it is so sad.
