I hate it when they can get deep into Snape and Dumbledore's minds. Why is that supposed to make me like the character? It just annoys the hell out of me.

Ah, yes, I suppose that is true. But he still allowed them to change him into something they chose for him. I think that's even worse.
I'd much rather Transfigure myself into something that I choose for myself and then put my trust in that they will turn me back when it's safe, than to have them turn me into an immobile figurine and really have to put my trust in that they're not just going to leave me like that. Because I'd much rather be stuck in an animal body than be stuck as a piece of porcelain.

Oh ew, now I remembered what Harry did to Wormtail in that timetraveling!Harry fic... Dx

Yeah, I remember that (the Heir of Hufflepuff, the evil snake-controlling mastermind - just about the stupidest and most badly planned out plot twist ever), but I distinctly remember that he was still transparent... Unless I missed a part where he became more solid later, of course.
In the first part of the last chapter of year 2:
"He leaned forward to get a better look at her, his barely see-through fingers finding the fang and pulling it free with some difficulty."

Not that I know exactly what a person who is "barely see-through" looks like.

Oh yeah, you're right. My bad, I was a bit disoriented. I just got in from a car trip. ^^;

Years and years late, but I just wanted to clarify: barely see-through means almost opaqu. He was only just barely tranparent.

It is an extremely awkward and badly written way to describe it, sinceit's pretty ass backwards and she rewords it in progressively worse ways every time she repeats it-- I had to re-read some of those sentences a few times to fully parse them, too. Also the whole thing is even stupider than I remembered to begin with.

(Apologies for typos. Phone post.)
