ZeldaQueen: So in the last chapter, Zoey was marked as a vampire and… not much else happened, really. She just whined a lot and made fun of people we didn’t know and never would. This is going to be a pattern. Ready for the next chapter, Ruin?
Ruin: In a masochistic sort of way, yes. Let us spork.
(
Poor Zoey's Mom... )
I'm going to ignore future stuff in the story so as not to get hit with the symbolic sludgehammer... unless I'm mistaken, at the moment we have absolutely zero evidence that the step-dad is abusive, do we? Just Zoey's say-so? Because I can picture a woman who's either a. on the market, or b. in a relationship with a controlling boyfriend (or still dealing with the fallout from one) to feel obligated to wear makeup, or wear it commonly to go out on dates. Once settled down with someone loving who doesn't care about makeup, maybe she doesn't feel the need to wear it everywhere???? Likewise, if lonely or stuck in a bad place, I'd imagine reading "exotic" romance novels could be a sign of escapism, or just longing for a permanent, handsome partner to come sweep her off her feet.
But no, Zoey's gotta be objectively right. Can't have a teenager who acts like a teenager everywhere else act like a teenager here and be anything other than objectively right. She can't be blowing out of proportion "Zoey, I would appreciate it if you'd come to church with us" and "Zoey, please clean up your room" into YOU'RE HORRIBLE AND TOO CHRISTIAN. Nope, gotta be that.
(in other words, please show before you tell or I'm going to stubbornly imagine the opposite of whatever you're telling)
Also, can we get a fetishization count? Between Zoey adoring her ~~Native Dark Beauty~~ and ~~~~~exotic~~~~~~ romance novels, I'm feeling just a little ill.
