Alrighty, here we go! Time to answer the pairings meme!
Both
chibi_regalli and
anakinnotvader requested ZELDA/LINK
1) When did you start shipping them?
More recently than you might think, actually. My views on shipping within the Legend of Zelda canon are a bit odd. I have a lot of different versions of Link in my head. You all have seen the very irritable version that I drag into the Sporking Chamber. My favorite canon version of Link though - the Ocarina of Time version - I always pictured as the quiet, brave, restless hero type. I always thought he and Zelda made good fighting partners, but I never thought of him being able to be with anybody at all.
So what got me into that ship? Erm...
this fanfiction, actually. Maybe because it's the first well-written Zelda fanfiction I've read, or maybe it's because the Link of that fic is still plenty heroic but in a way that makes it believable that he can go steady with someone. Or heck, maybe it's because the Zelda in that fic beats up bad guys with a lead pipe alongside of Link.
In any case, that's what seriously swung me over. And I have a feeling that the upcoming Skyward Sword will only cement that ship
2) What is their biggest challenge?
The fact that Hyrule is constantly being invaded or attacked and Zelda is constantly being kidnapped or forced into hiding. For most of the game, Zelda and Link can't see each other. And when Hyrule is at peace, Link is usually sent off to save other lands under attack
3) What makes me happy about them?
That no matter what happens, no matter how many generations pass, there will always be a Zelda and a Link to fight together and protect Hyrule
4) What makes me sad about them?
Like I said above, there's pretty much no hope for them to settle down together. Not to mention the fact that Zelda blames herself for the stuff Link goes through and that Link, nine times out of ten, watches Zelda get kidnapped or seemingly killed just as he thought he'd saved her
5) What moment do I wish had never happened?
Just one? The Legend of Zelda series is made up of nothing but pivotal moments like that. Well...if I must choose one, I'd go with Ganondorf planning to attack Hyrule Castle and chase Zelda off just as soon as you're ready to put the plan into action. If he hadn't, the entire second half of the game wouldn't have happened. Ganondorf wouldn't have stolen the Triforce, Zelda wouldn't have been forced into hiding, Hyrule wouldn't have gone to pot, and the timeline for the game series wouldn't have split and caused fans to wet themselves in fury trying to sort it all out
6) Who would I be comfortable with them ending up with if not each other?
Hrm. In the case of Link, I'd go with Malon (Ocarina of Time) or Ilia or Midna (Twilight Princess). The first two are down-to-earth farmgirls that I think that Link would work out well with. Malon is spunky and optimistic and Ilia is gentle and generally sweet-tempered (just don't hurt Epona). Midna and Link went through a lot together, though they would have a lot of the same problems Link and Zelda would have, coupled with the fact that they literally are from different worlds
7) What is my happily-ever-after for them?
I could see them both riding off into the sunset for adventures of their own. Actually, the ending for Zelda of the Sun and Link in
my femgen fic is pretty much it
chibi_regalli also asked for CARLISLE/EDWARD
1) When did you start shipping them?
When everyone else did: the biting scene in the first movie. "You're sexy", anyone?
Erm, seriously, this is just something I ship for amusement so...not really many serious answers for this one!
2) What is their biggest challenge?
Because they are eternally frozen with the mentalities they had when they were alive, they are forever stuck with the mindsets of people hundreds of years old. As a result, they have a very hard time accepting that they're free to live alternate lifestyles, should they wish
3) What makes me happy about them?
How can you not see a guy nomming on his adopted son's neck like it's a cheesburger and be moved to tears? OSCAR MOMENT! RIGHT THERE!
4) What makes me sad about them?
Because of the abovementioned locked mental states, they'll forever spend their lives pining away for each other, but feel the pressure to keep Esme and Bella around for appearances. Also, they don't have circulatory systems and thus can't get it up for each other, I don't care what Meyer says
5) What moment do I wish had never happened?
Carlisle finding a dying Esme. Frees him and Edward up, and has the added bonus that Esme wouldn't be stuck for an eternity in postpartum depression, with a dude who doesn't even actually love her
6) Who would I be comfortable with them ending up with if not each other?
I dunno, I think I saw some vibes between Aro and Carlisle. Former lovers friends, separated tragically by their ideologies? Just like X-men: First Class, only in that movie, it wasn't stupid! As for Edward, it'd be Jacob. All the way. He'd turn into a wolf and they'd wrestle in the woods and Edward would start screamg "YES! YES!" as Jacob clawed his back and chewed off his arm and then Edward would spit on the stump and fix it up for round two and...I think I'm going to stop there
7) What is my happily-ever-after for them?
For them to finally come to the realization that they're Meant to Be, which in this world means that they have permission to do whatever they want. Have at it, boys!
morri_delrae asked for JEAN VALEAN/INSPECTOR JAVERT
1) When did you start shipping them?
I usually don't. This, like the Carlisle/Edward one, is not really serious. I'm...not really a slash fangirl. No offense to those who do like it, I just am indifferent
2) What is their biggest challenge?
Just the minor fact that Valjean is an escaped criminal and Javert is a servant to the Law with an unyielding sense of justice
3) What makes me happy about them?
Uh... they both end up in the same place at the end
4) What makes me sad about them?
They have to die to get there
5) What moment do I wish had never happened?
Would it be cheating if I just used "that they hadn't met under other circumstances"?
6) Who would I be comfortable with them ending up with if not each other?
I...really can't think of anyone. Valjean is a devoted father and Javert is pretty much married to his job. Not much room for shipping in there
7) What is my happily-ever-after for them?
As weird as it might sound, the end of the musical. Valjean had lived a long life and left with Cosette at his side. And there's no way Javert could have gone his entire life without realizing that morality is not in black or white. At least at the end of the musical, he seems completely at peace
morri_delrae also asked for MARIUS/COSETTE
1) When did you start shipping them?
When I was first introduced to the musical, in my senior year of high school
2) What is their biggest challenge?
Erm, the whole revolution thing would be a biggie. It's kind of hard to have a relationship when the guy is probably going to die fighting the government
3) What makes me happy about them?
As is probably apparent in the picture above, the two of them are ridiculously sweet and innocent together. They really don't have much control over their own fates (really, the only reason they both survive and get married is because of everything Valjean does behind the scenes), but they still are a reminder that no matter how terrible the world gets, there's still that one little bit of uncorrupted happiness
4) What makes me sad about them?
All the obstacles standing in the way of them getting happily married are only overcome after the deaths of all of Marius's friends (including Eponine and Gavroche) as well as the death of Valjean. In fact, Marius only reconciles with Valjean and brings Cosette back to him just before he dies. That's damned depressing
5) What moment do I wish had never happened?
Marius rejecting Valjean and encouraging him to separate from Cosette. They just manage to avoid letting the poor guy die alone, but keeping Valjean from the only person he truly loved throughout the story was horrible and certainly didn't help him in his old age. (And yes, I know values dissonance and all for Marius's actions. I'm just saying)
6) Who would I be comfortable with them ending up with if not each other?
For Marius, I'd go with Eponine, at least if we're going off of the musical canon. Yes, he was dense in regards to her feelings for him, but at least in the musical they had an implied steady friendship before Cosette showed up. As for Cosette, I really can't say. Marius is, as far as I remember, the only guy she ever was interested in or showed an interest in her. If she didn't end up with him, I think she'd be happy to just be with her beloved Papa
7) What is my happily-ever-after for them?
Pretty much what happened in canon, except that Valjean would be allowed to remain with Cosette and be a part of her life
anakinnotvader also picked AANG/KATARA
1) When did you start shipping them?
Right about when I saw that picture right there. That was all it took. Just the happiness and energy radiating from them was fantastic
2) What is their biggest challenge?
I feel absolutely horrible to admit this, but I don't know a lot about the specifics of the show. I only saw my first episode today (and I loved it). Therefore, I'm going to have to go with... Zatara fans
3) What makes me happy about them?
Like I said above, the sense of happiness they give off in moments like the one above
4) What makes me sad about them?
Well, there's the whole "Aang is the chosen one" bit, which means they have to worry about dying a lot
5) What moment do I wish had never happened?
The moment when M. Night Shamalayn decided he wanted to write the screenplay and direct that wretched movie
6) Who would I be comfortable with them ending up with if not each other?
Mm. Like I said, I'm not really into this fandom, so this is all kind of loose. But for Aang, maybe Toph? Like Katar, she's hung around, traveled with the group, and trained him in the art of Earthbending. For Katara...erm, hard to say. I'd just say Zuko buuuut I firmly ship him with Mai
7) What is my happily-ever-after for them?
That they could continue to travel together, training their respective bending techniques and going on adventures
And...that's it! If anyone has any other pairings they'd like to add to the meme, just comment
here and I'll add them here. Otherwise, hope you enjoyed!
