I have been to see both a psychiatrist and a therapist. Granted, I was...maybe nine, at the time, so these sorts of conversations wouldn't have come up to begin with. But I can still say, from what I remember of their general behavior towards me that yes, questions about romantic relationships are creepy, inappropriate, and grounds for a verbal and legal bitchslap from the student or her parents or, hell, the school in question. Especially in this sort of climate.

Also, I would...tentatively say good therapist or psychiatrist doesn't railroad the session like this chick does, and the sort of prying she was actively doing into Nora's personal life was most certainly inappropriate. The comments about the housekeeper not being a good influence in Nora's life, especially - they aren't supposed to disregard valued connections in the person's life. They aren't supposed to judge how someone copes unless it is actively destructive to their mental and physical health - my therapist actually gave me some coping strategies for my anxiety disorder that would seriously get me stared at. They're unorthodox, and insane in their own right, but they let me hope.
