[Something was coming. His initial instinct was to quickly blend into the shadows of the wall behind the well, but found no need once he recognized the massive presence. By now the familiar feeling of the gaping hole, the absolute null, was far more familiar than he liked.

As always, his mind instantly centered around their absurd agreement. It'd been dropped. He could attack, but... doing that risked discovery, and destruction. [A new realization suddenly flickered to life like the tiny flame of a fire just beginning to burn; it was enough to temporarily nudge violent inclinations to the side: He could use this man; use his magic.
