Hers is the Hyrule which was once overshadowed by the power of the sorcerer Agahnim, servant of the dread lord Ganon.
She is the seventh maiden, the royal daughter descended of a sage who once helped to seal the Sacred Realm, that none might utilize the power of the Triforce for evil gain. She was banished to the darkened version of that bright land, entombed in crystal within the dungeon at Turtle Rock, until the young Hero named Link broke through the ranks of demons and monsters who guarded her and her six companions. Freed of their bonds, they combined their power to break the seal which kept him from confronting Ganon, and by his might he freed Hyrule and restored it to its former glory. Her father the King was returned, and all was as it should be.
She, Princess Zelda, slipped down to the dock to bid farewell to her Hero when he set sail. He wanted to test himself, grow stronger, be more able to defend Hyrule from future dangers.
"I would like it, my friend, if...you would write to me, when you reach your destination. It will be a long time until we meet again, I fear, and though I won't stop your going, I...shall miss you."
"And I shall miss you, Princess. Of course. I will write as soon as we land."
Then came the news of the shipwreck. Every other man on board was counted either rescued or dead, but no one could say for sure what had become of the young Hero. Since the arrival of the news, Zelda has grown pale and thin with anxiety. Each day, she makes the solitary walk through the castle to the chapel royal, where she lights candles and prays for his safe return.
Each day, there is no sign of an answer.
Now, she frames her prayer differently. She has grown frustrated, weary. "If you cannot bring him back to me," she beseeches the listening deities, "then let me go to where he is."
This, it seems, is the prayer they have awaited. This is the one they will grant.
How much time elapses from one moment of consciousness to the next, she does not know. One instant she is gazing upon the flickering candle flame; the next, she is on her knees and staring at a tree trunk.
Can it really have been that simple? She knows only one way to test this. As she once called out to him from a prison cell, and again at the moment of her abduction from the remote sanctuary, she closes her eyes and reaches out with her mind, wondering if there will come an answer.
"Link....Link, if you're here...if you can hear me..."
(OOC: This is Link to the Past/Link's Awakening Zelda, of course. Have fun!)
