Light in the darkness

Oct 22, 2009 22:37

[Zelda peers out the window of the laboratory on the shores of Lake Hylia, looking to see if the rain has slowed. It's pouring down as hard as ever, and the sparsely furnished laboratory is feeling damper and chillier by the moment. She sighs and turns away from the window, resigning herself to spending the night here. At least there's a stack of ( Read more... )

[Unbeknownst to the princess, there's someone peering in from the other side of the window pane, shivering as they attempt to endure the cold. Technology from a different world keeps them invisible to the naked eye, and for that, the stranger is grateful ( ... )

[The knock on the door brings Zelda to her feet in consternation. She stares at it for a moment, worrying her lower lip reflexively. Should she pretend the place is empty, and not answer? No, that would be pointless--the glow of the firelight gives her away, and besides, the door doesn't lock; her visitor could simply walk in.]

[She goes to the door and opens it carefully, peering out into the night, opening it a little wider to let the firelight illuminate the visitor's face. What she sees makes her step back in surprise, with a softly uttered] Oh.

((ooc: you too bro 8|b))

[Sheik stands still, attempting not to shiver to save face, his eyes focused squarely on Zelda rather than the dry laboratory behind her. He isn't as surprised since he's already stolen a glance at the princess. Up close, the resemblance is even more striking; it's something he tries to ignore.]

Pardon... my intrusion. [His voice is low - as low as acting will allow it to be. It's ambiguous enough to fool most of his colleagues (or at least, confuse). Sheik hopes it will be the same here.] Can I stay inside? At least until the rain stops.

[She hesitates a moment. Sheik--her Sheik, not this one she doesn't know--would tell her to be wary, that even a familiar face is not necessarily a friend. She knows that, yet...she is simply not the kind who can turn a fellow traveler away from shelter. She steps aside to admit him, or perhaps her.] Of course. Come in.

Thank you. [Sheik bows his head in gratitude before stepping inside. He lingers by the entrance, not immediately making his way to the fire no matter how inviting it looks. He isn't one to expect trust - it doesn't come with the job description - so he's wary of overstepping any boundaries the young woman may have.

His clothes are thoroughly soaked, though Sheik says nothing about being cold. Best not to draw any more attention to himself.]

[She shuts the door behind him, wishing again that there was a way to bolt it. But perhaps it's best that there isn't, in this situation. A little nervously, she moves past him to the fire again, glancing at him to see his clothes dripping onto the floor.] Come dry off by the fire.

[With an agreeable nod, Sheik follows, keeping some distance between himself and Zelda. He notices a bit of that nervousness, and he would be outright lying if he denied sharing those feelings. The spy keeps his composure despite this, his movements relaxed in appearance as stops in front of the fire, stretching his bandaged palms towards it.]

I've ruined your floor. [he muses, apologetic. He's avoiding eye contact in favor of the little puddles of rainwater trailing from the closed door. Sheik doesn't trust himself to glance in Zelda's direction for too long; he doesn't want to be caught staring, trying to pick apart what was the same and what wasn't.]

[She follows his gaze to the trail of water.] It's not my floor, actually. It's a laboratory of sorts...I was never entirely certain what it was here for. [She looks around the place, hugging herself as she shivers from the cold.] It was simply a convenient place to take shelter.

A god-sent convenience, then. [Sheik adds as he removes his hat, running bandaged fingers through short blond hair. He's sure he'll fall ill if he wears all this sopping wet clothing, so he removes some articles before seating himself by the fireside. The had is laid down, soon followed by Sheik's scarf. The mask remains clinging to his face and neck.]

No mad scientist has come back to reclaim what's rightfully his?
