A mountain that is no mountain

Jul 26, 2009 22:29

A lone figure walks slowly across the grounds of Hyrule Castle, finally stopping near the inner gate and taking a seat on a rock, setting his pack beside him. He's seen buildings before; he's even seen stone ones -- though the stone structures he's more familiar with are less made of stone and more carved from stone. Gorons live in their caves, tunneling and expanding as they have the need. Humans tend to stick to smaller structures, at least that he's seen, and only the few most important buildings are worthy of stone: those few buildings meant as protection.

This, however, is far too large to serve as protection for the few humans he's met, and yet humans clearly built this not-mountain. That doesn't tell him why.

Perhaps it isn't meant as protection... He scowls and stands back up. Perhaps it is meant to mark the fallen. No, that doesn't seem quite right. It seems too large, too ornate, too... unnatural.

He shakes his head slowly. This land, this Hyrule... The very air is heavy and settled; it shouldn't surprise him that the people and land share that trait.

"There is a reason for this," he says aloud, partly for the sound to break the stillness and partly to ignore the not-quite-voice in the depths of his mind whispering that all stone crumbles. "No one builds something such as this on a mere whim."

He gives the structure a long, careful inspection, checking to ensure that nothing hostile is around. He isn't approaching until he has a better idea what he may have to face.
