[It begins the way his dreams always do, with cascading visions of places he doesn't recognize. It's the desert this time. The jagged Arbiter's Grounds, although he does not know them by name, loom in the distance.
The sands are dark and he is lost. He doesn't feel lost, but he knows himself to be.
He wanders until he reaches the point at which the sands end. Like the shifting of a kaleidoscope, the entire landscape changes and this time it's the Twilight world- what he calls the "black world". He has been visited by this dream enough to know what happens next: the deep lake would come soon, and then the tall, snow capped mountain.
But the darkness does not lift as it usually does.]
Hey. [Something different...]
[The voice seems to echo down from the shapeless black sky. It's all around.]
Hey, hero.
[He doesn't have to say it, only think it: .... Who are you?]
You know what this means. The Great Black.
[.....What?]
You don't have to be able to see it to know what it is.
[..But then how can I know...-]
-Don't look. Feel.
Like all of those places, you know what this is. You've seen it, fought it...
[......]
True Twilight.
[...True...? I..don't understand..]
You never returned to your Hyrule.
[What?--What do you mean?]
Don't be afraid. There are no Princesses here, no monsters left to fight.... No need to worry about what happens if you die and those that can't fight are left alone.
[..... ...]
..We get to do whatever we want.
[..Tell me what you meant before- that I never returned.]
Stand in the dark, and just listen. It's calm...
[Tell me what you meant!]
Don't be so impatient. There is plenty of time.
[..I ..I.. want to know.]
There is nothing to know. You can't leave. Your spirit lives here, now, along with everyone else in Hyrule.
[...My..]
Your Hyrule.
[..No. ... No! I fought and I returned..-]
No. You couldn't find a way back.
[....... ....]
It's like they all warned you. You weren't ready, Beginner. The Goddesses made the wrong choice.
[...No..]
[Wind tickles his cheek as something large sweeps by and departs.]
[No!! Wait!!--- Please!]
[The blackness is suddenly empty, and he is alone. He is dead-no. Not dead. Sealed in the obscurity of the Twilight.
He feels it now, closing in..]
[Failure. Everything that people had been counting on him for....]
[Because there is nothing else he can do, he stares up, up, into the blackness. Lost and forgotten. The forgotten failure, stuck between worlds.]
[As the notion descends in full, it cruses the breath from his lungs and with it all coherent thought.]
[OOC: Performance anxiety Nightmares can be real
bitches.
For those confused about the setting.. he's just standing in a chamber where everything, everything- is black. There aren't any discernible shapes, people.... nothing. It's quite literally, nothing.]
