Adventures in *Not* Camping

You know what they say about the best laid plans of mice and men...

Edit: Apparently I forgot how to use a cut... :P

The plan was, since one of my sisters who is always busy actually had both Saturday and Sunday off from work, my mother's birthday was earlier in the week, and my parents' anniversary was Saturday, we'd all go out to the coast, camp Saturday, and then run around old town Bandon on Sunday.

Well, we were all set to camp, gear in tow, campfire food at the ready, only to find that the campground we usually use was all full. We'd have reserved a space, but the plan was rather spur of the moment, and they need 48 hours notice to reserve. There was an RV park that had "tent camping spaces," but they turned out to be basically the back yard of the office, so we decided to just stay at a hotel instead. In an interesting twist of fate, we ended up staying at the same hotel my parents stayed at 33 years ago for their honeymoon.

We tried to catch some of the Perseid meteor shower on the beach, but we could only stay until 10 pm, and we got cold and tired. It is kind of nice to stare up at the stars with only the intermittent fog horn and the sound of the waves as background, though! We did see on or two quick flashes, but no really spectacular shooting stars.

The hotel rooms had microwaves, but smores can be pretty messy that way, so one of my sisters made one, but we gave up after that. We played a bit of Farkle/10,000 with some dice and then called it a night.

Shopping in old town is pretty much like shopping in any other touristy place, but it was pretty fun. Then we had to drive back because I've got to work tomorrow and so does my perpetually busy sister. It was an interesting weekend! XD
