You know . . . I seriously don't want this Cutco job anymore. I just got off a phone conversation with someone who treated me VERY rudely, and there was absolutely no reason for it.
The conversation went a little something like this (I'm paraphrasing):
Me: "Hi is there?"
Him: "No, he's out right now . . . who is this?"
Me: "This is Dustin, I spoke to him the other day."
Him: "What is it you're trying to sell him?"
Me: "I sell Cutco Cutlery, but-"
Him: "Well we don't need it. We have Henkel's we have Wustoff, we have Global, we don't need your Cutco. Do not call us anymore. Is that clear?"
Me: "O . . k . . ."
Him: "Is that clear?"
Me: "Yes. It's clear."
Him: "You will not call him at work."
Me: "I don't even know the number."
Him: "Good. You will not ever again call this number."
Me: "Ok."
Him: "Say it."
Me: "I will not ever again call this number."
Him: "Excellent. You have yourself a wonderful day."
You know . . . it's not really how he treated me that pisses me off (although that's definitely part of it - there was no reason to go through all that just to tell me no), it's that I didn't stand up for myself. I should've. I mean, I'm not some career telemarketer sitting in a call center with someone breathing down my neck. I'm just a college kid trying to make enough money to get buy. And I should've said "Look, it doesn't matter if you buy, ok? I get paid just to do a 30-minute demo."
Gah, why couldn't I have been more assertive? I mean this was just on the phone and I wasn't really able to stand up for myself . . . how would I ever do it if it came down to real life? I'm just too nice I guess.
Nice guy finishes last. Again.
Edit: Don't worry about me guys. It bothered me for a little bit, but I'm over it now. :)
