Call me stupid as far as 'profits' go. But I think right now, is the time for some major corporations to step up and say, "Here, here is our donations of goods... and profits can be damned for a few months.
Examples
A major electronice corporations, such as Radio Shack stores, could donate 500 thousand small compact radios to be distributed among the stranded, since one radio station is all that's left on the air in the New Orleans area, and they will get their instructions/information that way. Even if the radios have to be airdropped in waterproof bags or something to mass distribute.
Outdoor companies/corporations should meet and pool together their stock, to provide tents, lanterns, blankets, sleeping bags, etc. Because there will definately be trailer and/or tent cities that have to be established for two months or even longer.
Major drug companies like Pfizer and others should pool to provide free or low cost medicines to the Red Cross and aid stations and hospitals.
Major store chains should gather together and provide can openers, canned foods and non-spoilable foods, and work with the feds and Red Cross on distribution.
I don't see why this isn't happening already, corporate America can move faster than the speed of light when it involves their asses, I think it's time they move now, in the interest of the hurricane victims. Why aren't they? If I could think of it, why can't they???
