So, I was linked to an oh-so-wonderful thread on GaiaOnline. http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/gaia-community-discussion/new-ecard-feature-under-testing/t.36038417_1/

An admin of the forums was talking about a new e-card for the holidays, and wished everyone a happy x-mas.  Some moron got pissed and said that it was christmas, not xmas.  To show you the general intelligence of this person, they also said that this admin was an "idot".  It's true.  You can read it at the link.

Of course, always being a day late and a dollar short, I was unable to add to the discussion, which may have been a good thing since the general IQ of Gaia is in the vast negatives, and is populated by itty bitty children who truthfully have no clue what the hell they are talking about.

Now, not only was this blithering idiot completely wrong about how Xmas is taking the "Christ out of Christmas" or "Cross Out Christ" as many of the other blithering idiots stated in the posts that followed, but they also spouted things about saying "happy holidays" instead of "Merry christmas."  But I will get to that shortly.

Xmas is a abbreviation for Christmas. Why?  Because in the greek translations of the Bible, X is the first letter of Christ.  And thus, as people tend to be very lazy (your modest author one of them), they shortened it.  So yes, Xmas does in fact reference Christ.  Intelligence: 1 You: 0.  It's a fact.  You can look it up.  Check wikipedia.  Check their sources.  Do a little bit of research before you get on your high horse and try to act like you know a damn thing about anything.

Now, about this whole "Happy Holidays"/War on Christmas crap.  That really boils my blood.  Think about it.  When people say Happy Holidays...what do they mean?  They mean "This is a season in which several different cultures and religions and groups of people celebrate certain times of the year, be it days, weeks, or even months.  In light of this, we wish that you have happy times."

It does not mean "We have Jesus and we hate you, keep your damn religious bullshit to yourself and leave us alone.  Hahaha Jesus sucks you Chrisfags."

Nope.

It seems that some people forget that there are other religions that exist.  Does "Merry Christmas" mean anything to a Jew?  Well, given that Christmas nowadays is nothing more than a commercialized product of our economic industry...which I have no problem with because I love getting presents...

As I was saying...

Jewish people don't celebrate Christmas.  Muslim people don't celebrate Christmas.  In fact, only Christians celebrate Christmas (in the holy sense).  So...given the fact that not everybody celebrates Christmas, and given the fact that there do exist people who aren't Christians...why would it be a BAD thing that people say Happy Holidays rather than Merry Christmas.

Now, don't get me wrong.  I don't want the words Merry Christmas stricken from the records.  I have no problem with people saying it to me.  Most of the time, when someone says Merry Christmas, they are saying the exact same thing as if they had said Happy Holidays.  "Have a great and merry day.  I wish you well."

That isn't too bad.

It's when people are FORCED to say something, that's what pisses me off.  You can't say anything BUT Merry Christmas.  You CANNOT say Merry Christmas. Which one is worse?

Neither.

They are both equally bad.

So next time you hear "Merry Christmas" don't think somebody is shoving religion down your throat.  And when someone says Happy Holidays to you, they aren't disrespecting your religion, they are merely being thoughtful enough to take into account the fact that not only are their other holidays and special times that occur during this HOLIDAY SEASON, but you may in fact be one of the people who celebrate something other than Christmas.

Did you ever think about that?

No.  Put down your damn "what the bible really means" book, pick up the damn Bible, listen to what it says, and realize it for what it TRULY is.  It's a series of stories that tell you to stop being such a fuck-up and lead a good life, and in the end you will be rewarded for it.  Who cares by who, who cares in what means, and who cares about anything else.  Just be a good person, and good things will come to you.

It's the meaning being the stories, not the stupid semantics behind it, that truly matter.  Who cares if it's God or Jehovah or Buddah or some flying-fuck dragon that is telling you to lead a good life and to have good morals and to respect your fellow man and love and not hate and not kill and not steal and not be a greedy fucking bastard prick.  Who cares where it comes from, as long as you follow it.

That's what really ticks me off.  When people put too much thought into the words themselves, rather than the meaning behind it.

It's the meaning that truly matters.  And if you cannot comprehend that, then I have the utmost pity and sympathy for you.
