I don't know how many of you have actually been following the progression of one of Cryptic's latest games. I, for one, definitely have been. I've been interested in STO since I heard about it earlier this year and have been following the threads ever since. Well, yesterday, the official closed beta began and the first beta testers have gotten their approval status! I'm awed with shock already and am definitely happy to be a member with MMORPG.com as well as the Star Trek Online webpage. The news was broadcast to both places first, of course I'm a few hours behind in getting such wonderful news. Imagine, a years old IP finally getting a steady (and hopefully lasting) place in the game world.
So we can't boldly go where noone has gone before in real life, but we can in games. No holds barred, go where you want, explore where you want and if the enemy is hostile, you don't really die. How great is that!? Personally, I'm hoping I get my very own Closed Beta acceptance key soon. At least, I think I'm a great candidate for this opportunity. I'm a lover of all things Trek (with a reluctant acceptance of Enterprise these days) and I'm a total game freak (even if I'm not the best or greatest at them). If there's anything I want to see work flawlessly, it's this Trek game. I would love for it to be more along the lines of "Buy the box, keep the game" and I'm hoping it's something close to that as billing options have not yet been explored (or so we're lead to believe *checks the FAQ again quickly*)
Q: Will a monthly fee be required to play?
A: We haven't decided on pricing plans yet.
So that's still in their FAQ.... *sigh*
Well, we can't all get what we want exactly as we want it, now can we? I'm not too familiar with Cryptic, but I've heard they have a decent history. Now if only we could solve the puzzle as to why Roper was allowed to work for them after bombing his last job???
