The day's itinerary started with the World Press Photo Exhibition at the Express Towers at Nariman Point.  Just small talk here and there.  And then zainaburbanbawa and I took the bus from Mantralay to Bhendi Bazaar, a corrupted name of the area behind the Crawford Market that the British used to call "behind the bazaar".

Wow !!
Can you suggest me some optimum configuration for a camera that I could have within a budget of more or less $500... I am such an amateur in photography.

I would suggest you go for a basic level Nikon (I am not familiar with Canon or other equipment and hence can't comment - guys?), such as Nikon F75 (N75 in the US). It roughly comes for less than $500 in the grey market there (please cross verify though). AFAIK, in India it is the cheapest, INR15000 (grey). You need to make a choice between film and digital. This camera (N75) is a film camera. I don't have much idea about digital cameras.

Things you should look for is an automatic metering system, a reliable lens (Nikkor AF G 28-80mm 3.3-5.6 is a good enough lens - unless you want something faster than this for low light conditions, but you can always use the in-built speedlight), autofocus (useful when you are learning), a tripod if your hands aren't very steady.

I think this should be good. Plus, you can read up some tutorials on the Net to give you an idea about light and speed while shooting a photograph.
