Warnings and Splurges

First off, a warning to all of us new adults.  Hackers and ID thieves are focusing their attention on a new, exploitable resource that everyone uses...Debit Cards.  A debit card can apparently be hacked quite easily and the PIN is almost no security at all.  You know when you buy stuff and they swipe the card through, then you get billed?  Well, they can take a "snapshot" of your card, and in their privacy of their home, "charge" you again.  This time for say...a few thousand dollars, or maybe just everything you have.  I don't quite know the details behind it but it is a sure thing that the debit card is not as safe as some would think.  This is my point though, Debit Cards DO NOT have the protection that Credit Cards do.  You can easily get yourself screwed out of some money at a very bad time.  So, if you are making a purchase online or you know your card is going to travel out of your sight for more than a few seconds, pay with a credit card.  At least then, you can contest the charge if something gets messed up.  This happened to me in a minor way, I cancelled my MMO account and they still billed me for it.  I called USAA and was told that they could refund it, but I had to go through some jumping through hoops and proving my case.  Also, they couldn't block access to my debit card.  If that game company had wanted to bill me again, they were free to do so.  I would have had to get a whole new card if I was to be completely safe.  If you want more info I urge you to look online and find some news stories about it.

Okay, off my soapbox!

I have decided that when my contract runs out at comcast I shall use my last weeks pay as a splurge (although I might hold off on the splurge until I have another job lined up.)  I have yet to decide what I want but I am leaning towards a PS3.  It's $500 bucks (ouch!) but it has the benefit of being a game system/computer hybrid...thing.  I have looked at the current titles out for it and, more importantly, the titles that are going to come out and it seems fairly solid.
Other ideas have been:  A new monitor, a PSP, and an XBOX 360.
I have pretty much eliminated the xbox as I think I would only be buying it so that I could play Mass Effect (so fun!) and not much else.  Buying a new system for one game is dumb really, so it's kinda the last pick.

Does anyone have advice or ideas for my splurge?
