Last Friday I stayed home from work with a cold (which I still have), but Connor had his heart set on going to a school dance that evening, so I took him.
He insisted on wearing his Mario costume from Halloween. I was a bit concerned that he wouldn't fit in, but I also didn't want to deny him the opportunity of meeting that lonely girl in the Princess Peach costume on the dance floor.
So we went. As it turns out, his costume wasn't too costumey without the hat and gloves and moustache, and he wasn't quite the only one in costume - there was a little girl dressed as Michael Jackson from Smooth Criminal.
The event was catered by the Varsity (high class!) and actually all group/line dancing, not couples dancing (I was kinda wondering about that, this being kindergarten and all). At first, he was reluctant to get out there, and kept running over to where I was, but eventually he got out there and danced. Sort of. Turns out there's a reason he only got a 2 instead of a 3 in rhythm on his first report card. :)
Sadly, almost none of the pictures came out, but here's a shot of him at the edge of dance floor, looking at the main body of dancers and trying to get the moves down before he joins them:
So he had a good time, the cold medicine carried me through the event (which only lasted about an hour), and hopefully we've started a trend where he won't be a social eventophobe like his Daddy was...
