Wonderland
As the World Turns

For simplelyric through help_haiti, who asked for Luke/Noah and 'icicles'.
Word of warning: I am completely behind on the current canon. So this is set around Christmas, before Noah goes away to rehab (or whatever it is...)

The wind is bitter cold, and cuts through his good winter coat to chill him to the bone. They've just barely stepped out the door, are still bathed in the light from the kitchen, and Noah's hands are already shaking. He is Not Happy, Luke can tell, but it's not really any different from how he's been feeling for the past few weeks, so he doesn't give it too much thought or worry.

"At least it's not snowing anymore!" he says brightly, taking his boyfriend's free hand. Noah sets his jaw and succeeds in looking even crankier than he has all week. Still, it only takes a few tentative steps for him to tighten his grip and stand a little closer, his cane sinking uselessly into the snow.

"What are we even doing out here?" he whines after they've traveled a few more feet. "I'm freezing my balls off."

"Icticles?" Luke laughs at his own joke, because someone has to. He brings their hands up and presses his lips to gloved knuckles, hoping that Noah can feel his smile. "Just trust me, okay?" Noah grumbles under his breath, but takes a few more baby steps forward.

It had snowed a few inches that day, but it had only been added to the stuff that already blanketed the ground. He and his sisters had kept up with making sure that the driveway was kept clear, but the various paths and back roads of his grandmother's farm were still buried. Luke leads them slowly on, trudging through the layer of snow, out past the barn and through the woods. He’s hoping to reach the lake before they freeze to death. The trees around them bow heavily, threatening to unleash their burdens at any minute. More than once, one of the boys slips and stumbles into a drift. Luke laughs and Noah gets huffy, both thinking of the fire and the hot chocolate and the family they had left inside. But Luke just leads them on, thankful that he's walked these paths since he was a baby and knows them like the back of his hand.

They reach a clearing that's not quite the lake but suits Luke's purposes just fine. He finds a spot well-away from any heavy branches and leads his boyfriend to sit. He kisses him, in part to swallow any protests or complaints about the foot of snow beneath his jeans. His lips are open and there are teases of tongue and Noah almost gives in, but part of him is set on being grumpy and won’t let Luke get away with something like this. He pulls away with an annoyed sigh.

"What are we doing out here?" he demands and sniffs pointedly. "If you wanted to make out, we could have just ducked upstairs. Nobody would have cared."

Luke sits back and looks around them, at the hints of a clearing in the middle of the woods. "The sun's been down for hours, now," he says, as if he hadn't heard Noah and was simply making conversation. "It's been snowing all day, so it's still really overcast. It's a new moon tonight anyway, I just mean there's no stars. There's still a ton of snow, obviously, but we're in the middle of the woods, there's not a whole lot of light to reflect."

Luke can't see Noah's expression, but he knows him well enough by now, can envision the wrinkled brow and down-turned mouth. "So?" Noah asks, shifting uncomfortably.

"So," Luke says teasingly, pushing their faces together again. He can feel Noah's breath, hot against his face as his breathing speeds up just enough to show he has his attention. "So, I can't see a God damned thing out here either."

It takes a moment, but Luke can practically hear Noah's smile as it breaks across his face. For the first time in weeks, Noah laughs. This time, he's the one that reaches out for Luke, who kisses him until the only sense that really matters is touch and taste (and hearing, because he can never resist the little sounds Luke makes.)

The cold isn't so bad once they warm each other up.
