Basically, with my new laptop I can do anything I want! WOOT!!
My first order of business with it was to transfer an old move, Port Washington, onto it so I could watch it. It took 4 hours to download some months ago, but then I realized it was an iPod format. So, I dos\wnloaded the Quicktime version that could play the files on your computer. However, it needed XP. I had Windows 98. So, I pulled the CD it had been stored on for some time, loaded it on, and watched it. It was a GREAT movie. If anyone is interested and doesn't want to spend four hours downloading it, call me, I'll loan you the disc.
Anyways, I realized that I needed to transfer some files (music, games, etc...) from the Windows 98 computer to Javelin, the "name" of my laptop. Hmmm... no floppy drive (besides, those wouldn't hold a single music file), no re-writable CD's (tha'd been a waste), and my dad's jump drive is not compatible with Windows 98. I sat at the Windows 98 computer, my laptop next to me. How could I transfer my precious files and folders??
I looked around.
I saw my mom's digital camera.
A choir of angels sang.
*beware: technical mumbo-jumbo ahead*
I thought to myself, hey, the camera is connected the the computer via USB port, which my laptop has, so it should work. The media cards that my mom uses are only 128 megabytes, that should be enough, but I'd have to make like... five trips. So, I went downstairs, opened the drawer full of old electronics, and pulled out a 256 mb one. I replaced the card, plugged in the camera, and moved my precious files (which weren't photos) onto the camera. I had to then go behind the computer (that's where they put USB ports 10 years ago) and disconnected the camera. I then plugged the camera into my laptop, and moved the stuff to my computer. It worked! In two trips I had everything I wanted.
*end mumbo-jumbo*
Oh well. Anyways, these laptop stories are going to need a title. Can anyone think one up? I'd like to have the word "saga" in their if possible. Maybe even an acronym.
