Smoking

An employer tells his employees what they can or cannot do on their own time even if the behavior in question is perfectly legal:

If you smoke even on your own time, you get fired.

I have no problem with anyone smoking on their own time in their own house as long as there are no children with them.  Or they can smoke outside.  I just don't want to breathe it and I don't want other employees (including restaurant and bar employees) or children to be forced to breathe it either.

This employer has already said he's going to crack down on overweight employees too.  What's next?  Banning all your employees from having sex before marriage?  There's a public health and insurance case that can be made for that too - non-monogamous sex will increase your risk of STDs.  Perhaps a requirement for your employment should be that your apartment should have cameras installed everywhere in it so that your employer can verify that you are not involved in unhealthy behavior.  Hey, if you don't like it then you can get another job, right?  Just like if you don't like an airline that forces you not to smoke you can go on another one, right?  What, there are no airlines that allow smoking anymore?  Then how do you know there will be any jobs out there that don't require you to be monitored 24/7?
