Well folks heres my two cents... After landing late in nueva york, i missed my original flight to london and was put on the next flight, which became grounded for an hour, which caused me to miss my original flight to Nairobi, kenya.. with the next flight not being till the evening, and i, arriving in london in the morning, i asked to be put in a dayroom so i could shower and catch up on sleep. by this time i really hadnt slept much in the last 48 hours... finally i make it to kenya ( of course on my international flights, i did take the advantage of ordering any alcoholic drink available for my on flight beverages. ) after arriving in Kenya..Leila's dad was there and ready to pick me up.. one problem.. where's my luggage? i searched and searched through the carousel. but alas, my one and only bag that i brought with me, was not there.
so there's nairobi national park next to the airport, so its rather peculiar while sleeping during the landing i hear someone shriek about there being giraffes outside.... ehh.. animals don't have boundaries .. humans do.. however this is not to say that there are wild african animals milling about the city.. the only animal aside from a lizard and a dog that i've seen was this huge camel that someone was walking....
with my luggage missing, my first real purchase (outside of the kenyan visa, which is some lame stamp that i could of made myself) is a 3 pack of underwear from the supermarket. of course when i get home leila's dad says the airline has my luggage now, and so off i go to pick it up.. mysteriously missing from my luggage.. nail clippers.... mysteriously left on mty luggage.. the flask of grey goose vodka my dad gave me for the flight.
as one would imagine there is a lot of dirt in and around nairobi.. when you first land.. everything looks like its flat and goes on forever.. but if youlook towards nairobi there are some hills... Gigiri, where, the UN is located, along with the US embassy, are surrounded by these hills. which make the drive through the lush greenery from the urban sprawl of the center of the city very enjoyable and beautiful.. but back to the dirt.. i dont know why im so amused but i love the fact that alot of the dirt here is red.. it dyes the pavement, and its just so much more prettier..ok ill shut up now..
So far my favorite moment has been buying vegetables at the market. i can't even describe it.. but ill take pictures..
well right now im at the UN compound waiting to be assigned for my internship, if I do say so myself, I am dressed rather sharply in my shiny shoes and waiting... so if you made it through this lengthy message.. cheers... a job welll done friends..
love you all
