one more day of classes left...
So this weekend me and sivakami went to her home in upstate new york, (NOTE: the words Upstate New York, may sound classy, but really it's just a whole bunch of prisons and communities in the middle of nowhere) Her father just had surgery for hernia, and she needed to drop off a load of her belongings because shes studying in Scotland next year. What her home really is, is a Yoga ranch and her fathers a Swami. (sidenote: so me and sivakami and her father are at the gas station renting movies, when this guy buying gas starts yelling... "Swagimi.. Swagimi..." I don't what made it funny to me, maybe cause he was white, and didn't appear to be a person of hinduist or yoga background... but nonetheless amusing..) We used the weekend to relax and study for finals, it was nice to get out of the academia bubble.. less stress.. we practiced yoga each morning and got to sauna... ahh sauna.. especially at night.. i finished off all of the reading for sociology and sivakami's dad woke me up at 5:30 in the morn to go and meditate with the rest of the community for two hours... it was really beautiful, they have many alters set up on the ranch, and Swagimi played and sang some funny instrument, we chanted the sanskrit. it was so peculiar, i felt like everyone was a child, with the way they moved their bodies and swayed, singing back.. it was hardcore!..Sivakami's probably one of the most interesting and closest of friends Ive made here. She's very well balanced in her philosophies, and we generally have good heartfelt conversations. The people at the ranch were the best, these are people who have now devoted their life to the Sivananda Ashram, they're not paid, and they all work together to make their home function, not only for themselves but for the guests who visit. .. i really dont know what im trying to explain.. its just that i know ill miss sivakami.. and ill probably not see her again.
