Steven Hawking...Xenophobe?

In case you can't be bothered to read the article...

He speculates most extraterrestrial life will be similar to microbes, or small animals

...But isn't the Earth relatively 'young' in terms of the rest of the Universe? We are kinda far from the center and didn't quite start forming until quite recently (in Universal means of course)...so, conversely, there should be highly advanced lifeforms, capable of interstellar travel (and 'seeding' or 'contamination' of primordial planets)

but adds advanced lifeforms may be "nomads, looking to conquer and colonize."

Possible...even likely, considering where our 'advancement' is in so-called 'civilization', yet with the evidence of previous advance cultures visiting our planet (Chariots of the Gods, the Maya and even the Bible) doesn't it make some sort of sense that our space brethren might be keeping an eye out for us? (ala Dr Who?...yeah, I know...Fiction!...but still...) Even if we are the product of a space family roughing it on a weekend campout on our primitive little blue marble and then dumping their waste before lift off, we're still being visited...maybe as anthropological field trips...and the UFO sightings around the world are simply rambuncous students taking their pods out for a spin while their Professor has their back turned.

Hawking claims in a new documentary that intelligent alien lifeforms almost certainly exist, but warns that communicating with them could be "too risky."

On this, I somewhat agree...Do we really need the intergalactic equivelant of Justin Beiber, Yanni, John Tesh or Glenn Beck? But DAMN! How cool would it be to hear the Spacial John Lennon, right?!

It's just a matter of time before we find out that we are definitely NOT alone out here in the cosmos...and while I prefer to be optomistic about that first contact, if the aliens DO show up during my lifetime, I'm not going to be up on the rooftop of the Capital Records building, holding a sign welcoming back Elvis!
