Lisbon Continued!

Hello !
Now that I am back to a somewhat steady internet source, my university, I can continue with our journey through Portugal and Southern Spain! I left off at our first destination, Lisbon....

We went to the fantastic Oceanario de Lisboa. The aquarium is an achievement of the EXPO 98 held in Lisbon. It is described as the second-biggest aquarium in the world. The waters inside are divided into four distinct ecosystems, and it’s truly amazing. We had a great time here, especially watching the sea otters - reminds me of home. :)

A water fountain outside the aquarium:

I love this picture!

I love the shape of these new buildings:

El Oceanario:

This one is for Christina - it´s a cuttlefish!!

I think the light looks really pretty here, if you look closely you can see some fish at the bottom!

After the Oceanario we wandered about the area where the EXPO 98 was held. An entire section of town was created, and is now called the Parque das Nacoes. It includes the aquarium, a new mall, metro stop, and several other HUGE buildings. We traveled about this area and took a ride on the air tram… I forget what these are called, but here are the pictures!

We then took the metro to the Praca do Comercio, the large shopping and historical area along the waterfront. This area is known as the Baixa and extends northward from the water to the plaza del Rossio.

The boxes surrounding the statue are actually a part of an incredible arte exhibit that we were lucky to catch while in Lisbon. The photographs were all taken from the air to represent the world from above - they are absolutely breathtaking! I will post more about the artist later - his work is brilliant.

These are just random pictures as we wandered about the city!

Inside an igreja (church):

A scary, pointy building

Hmm.. I¨m glad we didn´t stay here...

I love these balconies

The design of this building is curious, needs a bit of fixing up though

I love this picture. This huge dog was leaning out the window barking at anybody who passed by. It looks as though he is guarding the laundry, and it´s funny that there is a Portugal banner beneath him!

Not sure what this is about...

This is St. Vincent´s Monastary if I remember correctly...

This is the Panteo Nacional

This picture might be too dark, but plants are growing out of the building and window!
Think it´s for rent?

That´s all for now - I should head to the other campus and look for my classes! I start them today- yay for the first day of school! :)

Love to all - take care!
