Hello!
Okay, so Valencia was the craziest thing I have seen and done in my entire life. I´ve prepared a post and pictures, but my favorite internet cafe is closed today and the one I´m at is too slow to upload! You´ll have to wait in suspense until next week!
Oh! Speaking of internet - Marco is having internet installed in my apartment! weee! You´ll all being hearing lots more from me in the months to come! :)
What else is new? After getting back from Valencia I needed a solid three days to recuperate. Marco had Thursday and Friday off of work (a miracle), so we tried to get some travelling in, either Salamanca, Cuenca, Segovia or Toledo. Turns out everyone and their mother had the same idea, therefore we couldn´t find a hostel. And I am definitely not ready to travel without hostel reservations again anytime soon. So we spent the last two days pretending to be tourists in Madrid. It was great. :) Also, because it´s Semana Santa here there are all kinds of religious reenactments and processions going on. We even went to the main Basilica and cathedral here in Madrid. Okay, something crazy that I saw on the news is that they are doing actual reenactments of the crucifiction of Jesus... it´s really a bit scary, but fascinating. Also, during the processions there are groups of men whipping their own backs with palm, also scary but I suppose it´s part of tradition. The other thing that´s hard for me to get used to is the traditional outfits they wear during the processions- they look just like the KKK uniforms with the hood and all. Super scary - I´ll have to look into where the tradition comes from and what it all means this week.
Well this post has turned into a long stream of consciousness... sorry about that. I really just wanted to wish everyone a happy and safe Easter. Enjoy being with your families and mine should know that even though I´m still over here my thoughts are with them more than ever. :)
P.S. I just realized I´ve been here for 7 months... wow.
