movie mania

Today I had a double feature movie afternoon and I saw the new X-Men movie for the third time and it rocked. I thought it was great, great action scenes and fun dialogue. Plus it finally had Gambit in it and I was excited. I thought the guy they got to play him did a pretty good job. And it had Hugh Jackman running around shirtless or naked, so that wasn't bad on the eyes either. I think the costume designers had a fun time as well, all I can say to that is "Save the whales" *gg* Also it had Gambit, and he had more to do and say than just two lines *is excited*. I think they got a good grip on Sabretooth as well, his descent towards the beast within, and the kinda psychopathic behaviour he displays. He's one of my fave characters from the comics as well because I find him so fascinating. And did I mention the movie had Gambit in it :D

Then I went for the second time to see Lost in Space....err the new Star Trek movie and despite all the fears I've had when seeing all the exclusively action-y trailers and the reports in the magazines it wasn't all that bad. I went to see it completely without any predjudice and have to say I liked it, and I was actually pleasantly suprised by the new Spock. In all the pictures they had in the magazines, he looked a little too much like Sylar to me and not like Spock and I thought that maybe I shouldn't have watched Heroes so much before Star Trek ;) But it wasn't all that bad. It was great actually. It had some great action scenes in it and they also didn't forget the humor of Star Trek and that it's about the characters and the story. I liked how they gave nods to the original as well. And funny enough, it was Spock who got some in the movie ;)
But in all fairness I have to say, it's Star Trek and it wasn't Star Trek. I've decided I'm going to keep it like I did with the new Battlestar Galactica series. For me it's not the original but I see it like an AU. And that's how I'll do it with the new Star Trek. I think in the movie Spock says it perfectly, that everything that happened is an alternate timeline to the one that was meant to be or existed. I don't mind that at all, I love AU in fanfiction and I really liked the new movie.

x-men, star trek
