New cria
The new cria I've been waiting for all month finally arrived yesterday, right at the end of the normal gestation range and late in the day, rather than in the morning when most cria are born.
It's a female and light fawn in colour - see especially the tan ears and tail. Light fawn is a less commercial colour than white because it can't be dyed, but I think it's prettier than white, too. (The mother Janie is white, she's just dirty in the picture!) No name as yet. Janie's the one who lost her cria last year, so I'm relieved things seem to be going smoothly this time.
I missed the birth because I was doing my ironing in front of a House season 1 episode. I can't say I'm sorry to have missed that initial scary stage before it's on its feet and drinking, though.
