City to Surf and Perth Half Marathon

Sep 03, 2006 15:01

Ran my first half marathon today, and it seemed kind of a non-event in the way things do when you've done enough preparation that there's no longer any question that you can do them. Run a half marathon? Sure, I can do that. ::shrug:: Still, I guess there is some sense of achievement from not having much sense of achievement about running more than ( Read more... )

Wooo! Congrats on finishing both, especially the half-marathon. Bits of both events are ringing bells from my two mass-participation events of the year - the freeway bike ride and the Descent.

and the occasional "Sorry" or "Excuse me" as people work themselves into position.

...freeway bike ride, only worse because everyone is 2m+ long and not as manouverable.

a woman called out, "Keep going! It's all downhill from here"

...the silly buggers who call out "You're almost there!" at Toodyay, with 20k to go on Day 1. Good to see no matter where you are, the spectators are the same. :)

I don't think I'd be up for bike racing. Too easy to have an accident. I'd rather be on my own two feet.

This spectator was right! I thought there was one more hill than there was. Finding I was wrong was a very pleasant surprise.

Yup...my balance is too dodgy for close quarters bike racing. The best part about the freeway bike ride is the 3 lanes to pass people in without getting anywhere near them. :)

Hmm, that sounds interesting. Let me know when it's on next year? I haven't been on a bike in ages, but the freeway is all flat, yes? Might be fun. Where does it start and finish?

I don't feel too good when I think about being struck in the mouth playing hockey! My sport is much safer and easier!

Thank you! For all that I said it didn't feel like much of an accomplishment, I have the finishers' medal sitting right next to my monitor where I can see it!

He is quite amazing. The bit about his parents tying him to the clothesline brings tears to my eyes whenever I think of it.
