The Tax Act, etc

My tax course materials arrived at the post office yesterday and I rode into town to get them, wondering on the way home how many other people around the world transport such things by horseback.  Quite awkward to ride with a large cardboard box.  When I get Deadwood back from sarren I'm going to have to study how Jane carries Sofia.  JD does a nice job ( Read more... )

Oh, I totally forgot to comment on the tax stuff - I got carried away with the second part of your post! Taxes on horseback ... hmmm... well, I can tell you that doesn't happen much around here!

Okay, I'm supposed to be giving you encouraging comments about how tax legislation really isn't that bad ... the only problem is, it *is* that bad!! *g* I fear that pretty much all tax legislation I've encountered is "extremely lengthy, complex and confusingly arranged." The problem is that no matter how bad it is, once it's there, the difficulty and cost and expenditure of resources required to make a change become astronomical. It's virtually impossible to start from scratch ...

But actually, from a professional perspective, aside from the fact that tax legislation tends to be a full-employment guarantee for lawyers *g*, there are aspects of it that can be fun in a bizarre sort of way; I like wending my way through the thicket of rules and regulations not because I have much intrinsic interest in the subject, but because it's like solving a puzzle.

Was that enouraging?? :-/

(I fear it wasn't, so I figured I'd at least brighten the day with a pretty icon ...)

Yes, I thought it was!

but because it's like solving a puzzle.

I do understand this bit. I used to positively enjoy doing large accounting consolidations with lots of subsidiaries of various ownership percentages, complex elimination entries and foreign currencies. It's the "rules and regulations" bit with tax and the mish-mash of legislation and case law that frustrates me!
