The Weekend Australian ran a feature about the Pintupi Nine, believed to be the last major group of Aboriginal Australians to abandon a nomadic desert lifestyle 30 years ago.

You probably need a subscription to read the article, but what really jumped out at me was their incredibly healthy-looking feet in this picture taken the day they came into ( Read more... )

Yes, it's amazing! I bought two pairs of Vivobarefoot boots after my horse-squashing-feet incident, and they do have room for my toes and flat flexible soles, but they don't hold a candle to VFFs for comfort and ease of movement. In VFFs I always feel like springing around, and in the boots I feel like going back to the house and putting on VFFs.

I've been meaning to mention that I bought a pair of the water-resistant Lontras recently and have been pretty happy with them. They aren't completely waterproof, but they let you walk on wet grass without it immediately soaking through to your socks/feet the way most of the models do. I went up a size because I'd read they were particularly hard to get on.

Thanks for the tip... wet grass is not something I've been enjoying, gods forbid, the shallowist puddle.

Our experiments with waterproofing need more work.

Lontras, huh? Thanks!

I haven't seen them for sale in Australia. I used my mail forwarding service to buy from the main US VFF site.

I thought they might be too hot for here, but they're fine for cooler weather. Some reviews say the waterproofing doesn't last long, but I haven't had mine long enough to say. I figure I'll hit them with one of those waterproofing sprays if / when it becomes necessary.
