Trip update and SPN
I still don't know what's going on with work, but have postponed my trip at my main employer's request and am now going to the UK at the end of May next year instead of on Saturday. While I'm sorry not to be joining mr_booboo and psycho_tabby while they're in London, there are a number of advantages to going then instead of now, not least that I don't have to entrust the final approval of an annual report to someone who thinks "reaffirmed" should have a hyphen. There is still too much spring work to do at home to expect my mother to handle it for me, and it would be really unfair to expect her to deal with end-of-life decisions for my old horse! Note to self: it is only feasible for you to be away from home in late November, December, May and June.
The biggest benefit to going next year is that I get to join isiscolo and her husband on their two-week hiking trip across the north of England. Three large national parks (Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors) are kind of in a row from west to east and the trip goes through all of them. isiscolo is a Rosemary Sutcliff fan and the trip starts with Roman fort ruins and Hadrian's Wall, so I'm planning to reread a bunch of Sutcliff between now and then.
I enjoyed SPN 8x03 more than any episode since 7x07 The Mentalists, at least until it became obvious that they were going to have to kill a young, female stripper. Then I couldn't tell whether that bothered me personally, or whether fandom has trained me to experience other people's reactions right up there with my own.
Dean's "I know when I am at my best. And that is right here, driving down crazy street, next to you." is one of my favourite lines in the series so far.
I will never get enough of Sam and Dean talking alone in motel rooms and in the car. Their current conflict - wanting different things - is genuinely interesting and plausible and I can't wait to see how it plays out. I'm keen to learn more about Dean and Benny's relationship, but given the choice, what I want most is Sam and Dean alone together like we got this week.
One other benefit of postponing my trip: I won't have to forgo seeing any SPN in a timely manner!
