A few weeks ago I'd just come into the house after spending two hours pulling weeds in one of the paddocks while amusing myself by thinking about White Collar when I saw a post by
china_shop saying she was offering a White Collar story in the
help_pakistan auction. I hadn't yet made a donation and this was a nice prompt to get me to do it. I like the vast majority of
china_shop's stories and she's so prolific that I wasn't worried that having to write a story to my fairly generic specifications would be much of an imposition. (Though she did offer to write "you/any White Collar character", something I didn't see any other offerer do and for which I thought she deserved a lot of bonus points! Now that would be an imposition.)
A few days before the auction closed I spent some time browsing what else was on offer. There was a "miscellaneous" category that included exciting-sounding baked goods, but most of them were for mailing within the US only, which is only sensible for things that don't keep well. But wait,
17catherines in Victoria was offering home-made vegan fruit pectin jelly candy. Now that sounded interesting! *bids*
The story!
Because the night belongs to us, 6,800 words, Peter/Neal with Elizabeth's consent. It looks at some of the complications of a Peter/Neal relationship and it's very good.
Another recent
china_shop story I highly recommend:
The Love Nest, 17,600 words, Peter/Elizabeth/Neal The author's note: This fic has no nutritional value and a very high calorie count. I wanted to write a story where Peter didn't have the "I'm responsible for you" talk, and Neal didn't have to weasel his way out of the anklet, for a change. Pure self-indulgence. This is that fic.
The candy!
Just a few minutes later:
These things are yummy. A few weeks ago when
sarren was obsessively quizzing people about their Top 5 favourite foods, I put this type of soft fruit candy as my No. 5.
I'm just slightly concerned that next time I should be making an extra charitable donation1, I'll think, no, I'll just wait until there's a major world disaster, and then someone will send me a story and some candy as a bonus!
1 I do an automatic monthly donation every month that makes up about 75% of my usual annual total, and give a bit more here and there depending on what happens and who asks
