Creek area cleanup plus tree planting update

Aug 29, 2010 22:13

Mom and I spent today cutting up and burning fallen branches on the far side of the creek. We packed a picnic and kept two smallish fires going from 11am until dark. It's a really enjoyable way to spend the day - sunshine, nice surroundings (increasingly nice, as the volume of dead stuff decreases), moderate exercise and just enough risk of things going wrong to keep it interesting.

Just in case that sounds like fun to anyone else, I'd love to get a bit more done before burning restrictions start. For example:

It would involve fetching and carrying dead wood short distances, monitoring fires and putting out anything that gets away, optional chainsawing, food and drink, and some peaceful lounging around watching things burn. If it doesn't rain in the two or three days before, I'll probably be doing this next Sat 4th and Sun 12th and possibly also the afternoon of Sat 11th. After that fire restrictions are scheduled to start, but if the burning season is extended as it sometimes is, I'll be continuing through September and October. Feel free to join me, and stay over if that suits you.

This is what the 2005 tree planting area looks like today:

Same area with 9 month old plants in March 2006

These were all planted in winter 2006, I think:

Wattles (planted by mr_booboo)

Bottlebrush (slow growing but doing very well)
