I need help!
Here in Charlotte, NC "Big Mammas House of Burlesque" has been running for 2 and a half years. I've never had legal problems.
At our last show an Alcohol Law Enforcement officer(state employee) "raided" our show. He sent in agents to harass the bar owners and when they couldn't find any problems with the bar, he called the police. The local pd came under the auspices that "someone said you had strippers in here".
They threatened to take me to jail and the bar owner.
Now, the bar owner is running scared and threatening to cancel our long standing relationship. We have already inked the dates for 2009.
If anyone out there has legal avenues, aclu contacts, lgbt support contacts, arts contacts, that might be interested in helping a poor performing arts group, I would really appreciate your assistance.
We all have pretty much the same opinion here.
My show specifically encompasses sideshow acts, magic, professional singers, "drag" acts, and of course the girls. The majority of my performers do not even go down to thongs. I am aggressive about pastie coverage and we run a very classy show. I've been very careful to avoid any whiff of impropriety. The best way to describe my show is Classic with a modern appeal. The show runs 2.5 hours and we only perform 6 times a year at my theatre/bar venue.
The majority of attendees at my shows are women and members of the lgbt community.
So, how can a gal who hand makes the costumes, does all of the promotion, pays for the everything on her own and often goes home having paid everyone but herself, get the right legal support and the right people supporting her.
I had to ask family first.
So, please, if there is anyone out there who might have contacts or know someone who does, contact me privately at
Help@bigmammasproductions.com Thank you and may you all have a wonderful new your covered in rhinestones and feathers!
