Daubert v. Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals (1993)

Which was the ruling which led to the Daubert standard on how scientific evidence (in federal cases) should be treated during a trial. On a state level, the courts can use this, and quite a few if not most, do, but a lot also incorporate the old Frye standard into it. It's to keep the psuedoscience away from court cases... of course this leads to things like fingerprints (which are well established and should usually be allowed in as evidence) being thrown out by a judge since the judge becomes the "gatekeeper" of scientific evidence.

Is it any surprise that we spent weeks on this case in my criminal law class for forensic science? I didn't think so.
